About the role

**Reports to:**Senior Manager, Retail Operations

Position Summary: The Manager, Retail Operations is responsible for all retail locations at Rogers Arena. This includes managing an Assistant Manager, Supervisors and sales team for all hockey & lacrosse games, events and operations, scheduling & workforce planning for hockey and lacrosse games, running the memorabilia program, game worn and equipment programs, and the Team Store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned as required)

Operations

  • Manage and train Assistant Manager(s) and part-time Retail supervisors and staff
  • Handle cash, float requirements, financial reporting, and financial settlement for the events
  • Act as main contact for events with regards to merchandise logistics and tracking
  • Collaborate with Warehouse & Distribution Centre Manager(s) on inventory movement and yearly counts of merchandise
  • Manage Silent Auction program and game-worn equipment program
  • Establish and implement loss prevention techniques to decrease shrinkage in the store and kiosks, work with security on preventative measures
  • Implement and develop store audit reports on a quarterly basis to maintain consistency and a superior level of service and store presentation
  • Oversee all aspects of daily Team Store Operations, ensuring the store is fully operational, clean & always organized
  • Supervise, and support Assistant Manager & Team Store staff to ensure adequate floor coverage
  • Manage and control inventory levels along with the management team to optimize sales, gross margin and sell through of product as well as facilitate movement of aged goods and hot sellers
  • Review and analyze store performance and set goals for improvement and growth, work with Assistant Managers on opportunities and challenges

Human Resource Management

  • Address any employee issues that may arise
  • Encourage and support store management team to solve problems and take ownership of business
  • Monitor schedule creation, staffing levels, and labour costs of part-time staff
  • In consultation with the People Department and considering corporate programs, create and execute Retail-specific employee recognition and incentive programs
  • Develop and update staff employee manuals
  • Monitor schedule creation, staffing levels, and labour costs of part-time staff
  • Assist Senior Manager, Retail Operations with the preparation of the annual fiscal budget and business plan

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in related discipline (e.g. Business, Marketing & Sales)
  • A minimum 5 years’ retail management in a multi store capacity
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in an event style business at a manager/supervisory level. Stadium or arena level is preferred. Must be able to foster strong relationships with internal teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of retail industry, with a sporting goods background preferred
  • Solid computer skills and knowledge of POS systems (inventory management systems)
  • Sales driven and detailed orientated
  • Completion of post-secondary courses in business or event management
  • Knowledge of the NHL game (including top teams, players, equipment, memorabilia + jargon)
  • Familiarity and previous experience in dealing with licensed product.
  • A proven ability to lead, manage and motivate a staff of up to 50.
  • Strong ability to multitask and adapts well to change.
  • Exceptional cash handling skills and an ability to problem solve if discrepancies occur.
  • Proficient with Excel spreadsheets
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • As this position will be required to travel to and from Abbotsford/Vancouver, the incumbent must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) and extended hours as needed.
