Job Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer Location: Burnaby, BC Type: Full-time
Report to: Canada R&D Center NPI Manager
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and production of utility-scale and C&I battery energy storage products. This role focuses on mechanical system design, thermal management, enclosure design, and integration of BESS subsystems, working closely with electrical, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
Responsibilities
Design mechanical structures for BESS cabinets and containers, including enclosures, racks, and mounting systems. Develop and optimize thermal management solutions (air / liquid cooling) for energy storage systems. Support product from concept through mass production. Work closely with supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA). Support electrical and systems engineering teams on layout, integration, and packaging of batteries, PCS, EMS, and BMS systems. Lead mechanical validation and reliability testing (environmental, vibration, thermal cycling, etc.). Support documentation and certification processes for UL, NFPA, and other relevant standards. Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to manage mechanical parts development and quality. Support cost optimization and supply chain localization strategies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 5+ years of experience in energy storage, power systems, EV, or industrial equipment. Strong experience with utility-scale and/or C&I BESS products. Familiar with supply chain management, component sourcing, and supplier technical evaluation. Solid experience supporting NPI process from prototype to mass production. Knowledge of UL/ NFPA certification process (UL9540, UL508A, UL50/Type Ratings, etc.) is highly preferred. Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent). Experience with thermal simulations (CFD) is a plus. Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
