Ready to lead investment projects on a global scale? Motivated to transform the governance and performance of the company’s key projects? Curious to see how your skills can enhance strategic initiatives across Canada and Europe? Want to learn more?

The role in a nutshell

In this specialized position, you will lead governance and portfolio management for all capital projects and studies within the Custom Metallurgical Assets (CMA) Group. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the consistent, high-quality application of capital governance processes across the study and project lifecycle, enabling transparent, data-driven decision-making.

A core focus will be leading the enterprise rollout and adoption of a capital project controls system, including configuration, workflow design, reporting standards, and user training. This system will be the backbone for portfolio-wide planning, reporting, and performance management.

The portfolio spans major brownfield investments, transformation programs, process improvements, and sustaining capital across Canadian and European operations. You will work closely with project managers, finance, engineering, and operations to align projects with business objectives, maintain governance compliance, and maximize value delivery.

Operating at the intersection of technical, operational, and strategic functions, you will provide clear insights on portfolio health, risks, and performance to regional leadership while driving continuous improvement through standardized best practices and simplified communication of capital requirements.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

Lead the rollout, configuration, and adoption of capital project controls software platforms (e.g., Contruent, Unifier), ensuring alignment with governance requirements and portfolio reporting needs.

Serve as the subject matter expert for project controls systems, including defining workflows, data standards, reporting protocols, and user training to embed consistent usage across all sites.

Facilitate capital project gate reviews from Concept through to Execution, ensuring disciplined decision-making and compliance with governance standards.

Ensure all studies and projects align with business objectives, constructively challenging scope and approach to maximize value delivery.

Ensure compliance with the Glencore Capital Management Framework and all stage gate process and documentation requirements.

Manage the Steering Committee process, including structure, scheduling, materials, and follow-up actions.

Consolidate and produce monthly and quarterly reports on all active capital projects across the portfolio.

Provide regional leadership with timely, actionable insights on project progress, cost performance, and risk status.

Maintain portfolio dashboards and other key indicators of portfolio health.

Establish and monitor capital performance metrics, enabling assets to track and achieve targets.

Identify governance gaps, propose practical solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Develop and maintain standardized templates, procedures, lessons learned, and best practices for capital project delivery.

Collaborate with finance, engineering, and operations to ensure integrated planning and alignment across functions.

Present project status and governance requirements in a clear, concise manner to facilitate understanding at all organizational levels.

Do you have what it takes?

Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field; Master’s (MBA, MSc) is an asset; professional designations (PMP, P.Eng., CPA) are advantageous.

8–10+ years’ progressive experience in capital project governance, portfolio management, or project controls in mining, metals, or large-scale industrial sectors.

Proven expertise in implementing, configuring, and leading enterprise project controls or capital delivery systems (e.g., Contruent, Unifier), including workflows, reporting standards, and integration with financial/scheduling systems.

Experience leading enterprise-wide process or technology rollouts, particularly project controls or capital delivery software platforms.

Strong understanding of project governance frameworks, stage-gate processes, portfolio risk management, capital planning, and cost estimating principles.

Skilled in portfolio-level reporting, dashboard development, performance tracking, ERP systems, cost control tools, and data visualization platforms.

Solid knowledge of mining, metallurgical processing, or heavy industrial operations, and familiarity with project execution strategies (EPCM, EPC, Owner’s Team) and global best practices in capital project governance.

Strong communicator with ability to present complex governance requirements and portfolio data to senior executives, project managers, and functional teams; able to influence without direct authority.

Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional initiatives, change management, and adoption of new tools, processes, and standards across diverse teams and locations.

High attention to detail with ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, while developing standardized templates, procedures, and best practices for consistent capital delivery.

Travel: You will be willing to travel domestically and/or internationally for approximately 20-30% of the time and work with colleagues located in different time zones.

Languages: Due to the global nature of this role, fluency in English, both written and spoken is required. Knowledge of another language such as French, Spanish, or Italian is an asset.

Location: This position can be based at our office in Laval, QC or Toronto, ON.

The interview process may start prior to the closing date of the posting.

Only candidates with full working rights in Canada will be considered.
