Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About The Role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Manager, Stakeholder Engagement to join our dynamic Stakeholder Engagement team in our Inclusion, Sustainability and Engagement division .

The Stakeholder Engagement Team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by gathering input from our various audiences on our policies, products or operations to inform our decisions. The team listens, shares information, engages in dialogue, and explores workable solutions for patients, families, caregivers, the broader communities we serve, and the health care system. Canadian Blood Services engages to make difficult, complex decisions in collaboration with the individuals and organizations affected by those decisions.

In this role, you will develop, implement, and manage Stakeholder Engagement strategies, programs, projects, and activities for Canadian Blood Services (CBS), with a specific focus on engaging African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities .

You will be responsible for developing and leading an engagement strategy to build trust and relationships with ACB communities, seeking input to guide Canadian Blood Services’ priority of building a larger and more diverse donor base. You will lead specific projects and activities as identified by business owners and the executive management team as included in the group’s annual operational plans and priorities. You will be responsible for ensuring that strategic issues are recognized, addressed, and escalated as needed. You will support decision-makers by designing, delivering, and evaluating consultations that provide participation opportunities for stakeholders, key influencers, and the public. As part of the Stakeholder Engagement team, you will also support the Inclusion, Sustainability and Engagement (ISE) division’s objectives and meets the stakeholder engagement needs associated with CBS’s Strategic Initiatives.

Formula for success

  • Lead engagement with African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities as well as other stakeholders such as patients, clinicians and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  • Manage the development and delivery of stakeholder engagement strategies for the organization to help ensure openness, transparency and the involvement of stakeholders, key influencers, and the public in decision-making in ways that deliver on CBS’s strategic stewardship goals.
  • Plan, create, and disseminate external and internal communications and presentations to inform and engage stakeholders, and in turn convey stakeholders’ perspectives to CBS.
  • Manage budgets for specific Stakeholder Engagement projects and activities.

Desired education and skills

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is essential, including in arts or social sciences (such as sociology or communications), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven to 10 years of related experience, preferably in health care and in non-profit or governmental organizations.
  • Experience designing and delivering engagement activities with African, Caribbean and Black communities, patients, caregivers, clinicians, or other stakeholder audiences within health systems.
  • Lived experience of encountering and addressing complex equity, diversity and inclusion issues is strongly preferred.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group is preferred. The equity-deserving group includes, but not limited to racialized persons, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, and persons living with visible and/or invisible disabilities.
  • Solid understanding of stakeholder environments in health care and in African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities across Canada.
  • Knowledge of public participation and engagement practices.
  • Comprehension of the foundations of effective communication strategies.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and evaluation metrics (key performance indicators) associated with stakeholder engagement and public involvement.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/days of the week.
  • You may be required to travel 20-40% within the GTA, as part of the role.
