About the role
Rooted Connections is seeking a part-time, detail-oriented, and motivated Finance Assistant to support our growing finance and administrative team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and brings experience in accounting and financial operations. Key Responsibilities:-Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, including invoice tracking, payment processing, and monitoring outstanding balances.-Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.-Post and maintain journal entries in the accounting system, ensuring alignment with general ledger policies.-Assist with payroll processing, including tracking hours and benefits where needed.-Manage benefit plan enrollments and terminations (health, dental, etc.).-Administer RRSP enrollments and terminations according to plan guidelines.-Monitor expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.-Track grant-related expenses and assist with reporting to funders.-Prepare and file GST returns, ensuring compliance with deadlines.-Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with regulatory and audit standards.-Respond to internal finance-related questions and support policy adherence.-Support the Finance Manager in audit preparation and financial reviews.-Provide financial data to support budgeting and reporting processes.-Collaborate on improving financial workflows and documentation systems. Skills & Qualifications:-2+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping.-Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar platforms and Microsoft Excel.-Strong understanding of A/P, A/R, and journal entry management.-High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. *Please note: Hiring for July 2026, interviews will be end of June 2026.
