The Role
The Educational Attendant will be called upon to provide in-class and out-of-class support to students who need more complex support in nature and may require hands-on assistance. The specific duties of the role will be dependent on the individual that the incumbent is assigned to work with, but may include:
- Guiding student behaviour/interactions in the class environment
- Assistance with note-taking
- Assisting the student in setting up personal materials in the classroom for learning
- Acting as a reader/scribe for in-class activities/assignments
- Working with the student out of class to assist with comprehension of assignment expectations, organizing and planning of assignments, booking accommodated tests, and obtaining research materials, etc.

Job Requirements
The successful candidate should have 2 years of experience working in the Human Service field, with preference given to those with experience in an educational environment supporting individuals with diverse needs. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate is an asset
- Basic computer skills. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Zoom, is an asset.
- Problem-solving attitude to approaching issues, while exercising independent judgment and ethical decision-making with a minimum amount of supervision
- Commitment and interest in student advocacy
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, listening, and judgment skills
- Tact, diplomacy, maturity, and the ability to empathize
This position is a temporary appointment and is anticipated to be up to 17.5 hours per week. Hourly salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications. The duration of this appointment is dependent on the student’s enrolment and attendance.
