The Opportunity

The Parks Division is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Resource Maintenance Supervisor for Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park & Area Recreation Sites within the Parks Division. Reporting to the Park Manager, this position is an integral member of the Park Management team and is responsible for park maintenance operations, including:

• Utilizing your leading, coaching and performance management skills in the supervision of the park maintenance team;
• Cultivating and building strong working relationships with contractors, suppliers, commercial lessees, stakeholders and other ministry staff;
• Leading in-park projects, using your project and financial management knowledge and experience, including the oversight, costing, budget and quality control;
• Ground and landscaping maintenance, including trail grooming, irrigation and vegetation management;
• Procurement and purchasing of equipment, parts and supplies;
• Managing and leading the park's preventative maintenance program on park infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles;
• Park water treatment and distribution, including oversight of the water treatment plant operations.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate is expected to have:

• Knowledge and experience in facilities management and operations with the ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of park facilities and equipment (power mobile equipment operation, plumbing, carpentry, etc.);
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Standards(OH&S), Workplace Hazardous Material Information Systems (WHIMIS), and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG);
• Knowledge and experience with prioritizing work in alignment with the goals and priorities of the Ministry;
• Demonstrated organizational, planning, and management of the workflow of other employees, including the effective use of time and resources;
• Strong judgement, problem-solving and decision-making skills using a solutions-based and risk management approach;
• Superior communication skills, both written and oral, and experience building commitment through collaboration and consultation;
• Experience in business administration, computer operations and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;

Our candidate will also be expected to hold a valid SGI Class “G” Endorsement license (or be able to obtain within six months), as well as a valid Class 1 Water Treatment and Distribution Certification and Class 1 Wastewater Treatment and Collection Certification (or begin the training towards certification within twelve months).

Typically, the successful candidate will have several years of supervisory and management experience, and the knowledge for this position would be gained through a combination of experience and/or education.

The successful candidate will typically spend 60-70% of their time in the office and the remainder of the time in the field. There may be travel required on an occasional basis. The successful candidate may need to be available to work occasional weekends, evenings, or statutory holidays and provide on-call support during the peak season. The successful candidate may also need to cover the role of Park Manager as well.

Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park & Area is located on the eastern shore of Last Mountain Lake near a coulee named Rowan's Ravine. Situated on the largest natural lake in Saskatchewan, Rowan’s is an urban recreation park approximately 50 minutes from Regina. The park is 270 hectares and hosts ~300 campsites, which are open from May to October, as well as a vast day-use area that overlooks Last Mountain Lake. We draw both national and international visitors year-round for the lake's premier fishing. Rowan’s has approximately 25 staff at peak season and 4 commercial in-park businesses.

We also manage numerous recreation sites surrounding Regina, including Regina Beach, Condie Nature Refuge, Wascana Trails, Valeport, Parry and Last Mountain House Provincial Historic Park with approximately 9 staff.
