POSITION OVERVIEW

The Strategic Communications Manager plays a central role in advancing the brand, mission, and strategic priorities of Changent by aligning internal and external communications around clear, consistent, and impactful messaging. This role serves as a key integrator in a matrixed environment, guiding cross-functional teams to create unified messaging, elevate storytelling, and maximize the reach and effectiveness of communications efforts.

 

Working in partnership with departmental leaders, Marketing & Communications colleagues, and external partners, this role strengthens organizational visibility, credibility, and clarity. The Strategic Communications Manager leads coordination of organizational communications initiatives, supports thought leadership, and helps the organization maintain a unified and compelling voice across channels.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

30% | Strategic Communications & Brand Management

  • Serve as a central point of coordination for communications across the organization to align efforts with brand standards, organizational priorities, and campaign strategies.

  • Develop and maintain organization-wide messaging frameworks, narrative guidance, and brand standards.

  • Standardize and maintain consistent messaging across departments, campaigns, and external channels.

  • Review external communications for tone, clarity, consistency, and effectiveness.

  • Identify opportunities to amplify communications across platforms and audiences.

  • Develop processes and guidelines that support coordinated communications across teams.

  • Serve as an internal resource and subject matter expert on brand standards, usage, and evolution.

 

25% | Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Management

  • Partner across teams to plan, execute, and evaluate communications initiatives while managing organization-wide deliverables.
  • Partner with senior leaders to align communications strategies, timelines, and priorities.
  • Serve as a liaison across teams and coordinate deliverables and workflows.
  • Lead project management for organization-wide communications initiatives, including the ‘Year in Review’ and other priority campaigns.
  • Facilitate regular communications planning touchpoints to strengthen alignment and reduce duplication.
  • Provide strategic counsel and feedback on high-visibility communications efforts.
  • Review communications activities to identify gaps, overlaps, and areas for integration.

 

25% | Internal Communications & Thought Leadership

  • Strengthen organizational alignment and visibility through strategic communications and thought leadership.
  • Manage internal communications in partnership with executive and senior leaders.
  • Support the development and execution of internal messaging that aligns staff around organizational priorities and initiatives.
  • Support organizational thought leadership through content development, messaging, and public positioning.
  • Develop talking points, presentations, and key messages for executive and leadership communications.
  • Serve as a liaison for executive and internal communications needs.

 

20% | Communications Operations & Digital Platforms

  • Support external communications through agency coordination and oversight of digital platforms and resources.
  • Coordinate assigned projects with the public relations agency to align on deliverables, timelines, and organizational priorities.
  • Oversee website content updates and maintenance, ensuring consistency with brand and messaging standards.
  • Manage relationships with external technology and vendor partners supporting the website and digital platforms.
  • Own and maintain the external communications calendar.
  • Develop and maintain templates, toolkits, and shared resources for organization-wide use.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in communications, brand strategy, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects and organizational initiatives.
  • Experience supporting public relations efforts and managing external firms preferred.
  • Experience managing website content and working with external technology vendors preferred.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate organizational goals into actionable communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including messaging development and storytelling.
  • Ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and drive alignment without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% annually.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position reports to the Director, Marketing & Communications and does not have direct reports.
