In this role, you will:
- Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems – Electrical Team Lead and contribute to the successful delivery of technical deliverables;
- Prepare and approved deviations and waivers for submarine electrical equipment;
- Draft, review, and approve repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities;
- Draft, review, and approve (when delegated) electrical engineering policies, procedures and internal standards;
- Provide mentoring and professional oversight for a team of engineers and technologists;
- Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to both internal and external customers;
- Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment;
- Authorize and evaluate Test Forms as part of Joint Test Group on behalf of Engineering;
- Act as the System Group Coordinator and System Lead to provide oversight on complex fault diagnosis activities and system operations; and
- Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities
- Conduct other duties as necessary or as reasonably assigned from time to time
The ideal candidate brings:
- A Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering, licensed to practice in Canada as a Professional Engineer;
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience (naval industry considered an asset);
- 3+ years of submarine specific experience (considered an asset);
- Experience in design and maintenance of platform electrical systems such as power and distribution, control and instrumentation, motors, generators and propulsion
- Experience in design and maintenance of combat electrical systems such as radar, sonar and communications
- Experience providing professional oversight and mentorship within a technical team; and
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports, and making presentations
- You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
