About the role

Operator: DiveRACE | Program: Andaman Sea Reef Restoration (DMCR-aligned)

Location: Phuket (boat access to restoration site) | Type: Volunteer (unpaid; refundable commitment deposit)

Mission

Help us rebuild reefs and protect marine life in the Andaman Sea. You’ll receive training aligned with Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) and work alongside our team to grow and maintain a thriving reef site.

What You’ll Do

Underwater restoration: Frame deployment, coral fragmenting/attachment, algae & predator control, site maintenance Monitoring: Growth checks, photo documentation, data logging Education & outreach: Lead/assist in coral restoration workshops (as trained) Topside support: Prep, loading/unloading, rinsing/maintenance Standards & safety: Always follow DMCR protocols, environmental best practices, and dive safety procedures

Commitment

Minimum: 12 diving days within 12 months (flexible scheduling; weekdays/weekends possible) Per day: Typically 2–3 working dives (conditions permitting)

Training & Supervision

DMCR-aligned training provided (approved procedures/standards)

On-site oversight: Site briefings, buddy checks, and supervision by DiveRACE dive leaders

Requirements

Certifications: Open Water (or higher); Advanced + Nitrox preferred

Experience: Recent diving, solid buoyancy (recommended ≥30 logged dives) Fitness: Fit for repetitive working dives; dive medical if required Insurance: Personal dive insurance (e.g., DAN or equivalent) Mindset: Team player, reliable, respectful of marine life

Underwater photography for monitoring

Conservation/marine biology fieldwork experience Thai language ability (DMCR sessions are typically in Thai; translation/support may be arranged where possible)

Commitment Deposit (Refundable)

Amount: 12,000 THB payable upon acceptance to secure your 12-day commitment

Refund mechanism: We return 1,000 THB for each completed dive day Complete 12 days → 12,000 THB returned Complete 8 days → 8,000 THB returned (4,000 THB retained) The deposit is not a fee; it ensures reliable planning for boats, gear, and DMCR-aligned operations.

Deposit Terms (Summary)

Refunded only against completed dive days within the 12-month window

Missed or late-cancelled commitments (without valid medical/weather reasons) may count as non-refundable days Safety, ecological, or conduct violations may disqualify a day from refund Extensions for extenuating circumstances (e.g., documented medical) may be considered at our discretion
