The Ministry of Community Safety is seeking an individual with proven leadership skills for the position of Court Security Inspector. As a Special Constable, the Inspector operates under The Criminal Code of Canada, The Police Act, The Court Officials Act 2012 and The Court Security Act, 2012. Reporting to the Superintendent of Court Security, this position is responsible for overseeing Court Security and Prisoner Management in the Central Region of Saskatoon, North Battleford, and Lloydminster. The headquarters location for this position is Saskatoon.
Key accountabilities of this position:
- Ensure court security services and prisoner management are delivered in accordance with all policies and regulations.
- Provide leadership to a team of 50+ individuals.
- Lead initiatives to increase the operational effectiveness of the service.
- Oversee the security for Judges, courtrooms, and the public; the escort and detention of prisoners, perimeter screening services, and ensuring documents are accurate for persons being released and/or held in custody.
- Manage the intra-city transport of prisoners.
- Investigate and respond to staff and public complaints/allegations with a focus on obtaining facts and achieving resolution.
- Foster team success by creating an environment that welcomes, supports, and respects the diversity of employees, public, and clients.
Our candidate of choice will have:
- Demonstrated senior management skills.
- Knowledge of security, corrections, and law enforcement.
- Knowledge of criminal justice and court procedures.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and capable of communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders and clients.
- Strong computer skills working with and using various Word, Excel, and PDF documents.
- Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Effective people management and changing management skills.
- A valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract which demonstrates a safe and responsible driving record.
During the probationary period, you will be required to
- Successfully complete the Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test (SOPAT) with an elapsed time of 6:00 or less.
- Complete a certificate in self-defence training equivalent to the standard of the Provincial Protective Services Training and Standards Unit (TSU).
- Be authorized under The Police Act, 1990, to carry a firearm as identified in the Saskatchewan Police College Firearms Training Manual, and successfully pass a psychological assessment.
- Be certified in First Aid and CPR “C”.
- Successfully complete all mandatory Inspector courses.
Typically, the experience and knowledge required to achieve the above are obtained through:
- A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
- Previous occupations relating to government security processes or law enforcement.
- public administration.
- Previous and progressive management experience overseeing large staffing units.
- or a related field supplemented with significant experience working in the justice/law enforcement area.
The successful candidate must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves, and to ensure confidentiality within and outside the place of work. Some travel will be required.
