About the role
OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Head of Category Management, the Category Manager is responsible for the management of selected categories in the convenience store retail environment. This will include contributing to setting the strategic direction of the category, vendor management and initiatives required to achieve sales and profit objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Negotiates supply agreements and manages vendor relationships with preferred convenience store suppliers, for assigned categories.
- Manages product assortment and product specifications in assigned categories, in order to identify and address opportunities within the business and the market, to maximize sales and margin opportunities.
- Develops and communicates business plans that maximize sales, margin dollars and margin percentage, based on current business trends and external market factors.
- Identifies items to maximize promotional and marketing strategies to meet sales and margin goals.
- Provides field leadership teams and store operators with relevant and timely communication required to maximize sales and margins, through effective merchandising tactics.
- Assists in the support, maintenance and updating of the price book ERP system, as required.
- Works with the Marketing Team on promotional and merchandising programs.
EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a directly related role, which includes store retail operations and systems experience.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Persuasive communicator, presenter and negotiator.
- Self-starter who can manage time well.
- Able to plan, execute and juggle multiple projects and priorities successfully.
- Previous experience leading projects.
- Excellent analytical skills with proven attention to detail.
- Must be highly competent in the use of Microsoft suite of software.
OTHER:
- Able to communicate effectively in both official languages, both verbal and written, is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience within the convenience industry will be considered an asset.
- While based in Ottawa, Ontario, this position requires occasional travel to various locations.
- Requires valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
