Position: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
Reports to: Plant Manager
Direct Reports: Facilities Maintenance Helper, Facilities Maintenance Millwright, Custodian, Facilities Maintenance Technician

Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for motivating, mentoring and engaging a small group of Tradespeople and janitorial staff while at all times ensuring compliance with OSHA and its regulations, and that every reasonable precaution is taken to protect the workers. You and your team will be responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, repair and overhaul of all building, grounds, building systems, and mobile and production equipment associated in the manufacturing facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maximize team utilization and efficiency, by ensuring departmental skillset is correctly distributed amongst a variety of conflicting priority work tasks.
  • Communicate clear goals, expectations and instruction to team members and Contractors. Communicate effectively and constructively with peers, other members of the management tea, Contractors, Vendors and legislative authorities. Attend production and other related meetings and contribute in a cooperative and positive manner.
  • Coach and mentor team members and develop Performance Improvement Plans and deliver corrective action when and as required. Prepare and present details, objective and fair annual performance appraisals to each employee.
  • Enforce correct use of PPE and ensure safe work practices are being followed at all times, correcting employee’s behavior as necessary.
  • In the case of injury, ensure employee receives prompt first aid treatment, prepare First Aid reports, investigate and prepare incident reports, followed by prompt development and execution of corrective action plans to address root cause.
  • Ensure that MacLean Engineering meets or exceeds expectations of all federal, provincial, and municipal acts, regulations, laws, and by-laws that govern the operations of the manufacturing facility.
  • Ensure that all daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections and any remedial action required to correct deficiencies found during inspection are scheduled, executed, and documented in a timely manner without exception.
  • Develop effective preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, in an effort to maximize equipment reliability, to minimize occurrence of unplanned downtime, and to minimize overall operational risk.
  • Continue with the development and upkeep of the “Maintenance Plan”, encompassing scheduled inspections and preventative/predictive maintenance work tasks, and other planned maintenance activities.
  • Plan, acquire materials and resources, execute and document all maintenance work tasks, ensuring maximum resource usage, maximum work quality, and at minimum cost.
  • Working at times as “Project Manager”, prepare, manage, and execute the “Capital Plan”. Annually determine stakeholder fiscal year needs, estimate project(s) cost, and prepare summary for Executive review. Upon approval, determine critical path, prepare project Gantt, acquire quotes for resources and materials, prepare CER, and execute projects to plan and on budget.
  • Attend all JH&S committee meetings and take an active role as a Management representative. Work closely with Production Supervisors and others, to develop and implement corrective action to address H&S deficiencies found during audit, risk analysis or incident investigation.
  • Update master floor plan and prepare other facility and site drawings as required utilizing CAD.

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma or Certificate of Completion
  • Certificate of Qualification as a Millwright and/or Industrial Electrician is preferred

Experience

  • Five (5) + years’ experience working within a Maintenance Planning, Supervisory, Management or Project Management role is preferred
  • Previous formal Leadership training is preferred
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Canadian Electrical Code, the Environmental Protection Act and city/town Bylaws as they pertain to manufacturing and office facilities located within the province of Ontario is preferred
  • Previous experience utilizing AutoCAD for drawing updates, and manual or CMMS maintenance management systems for planning and scheduling
