Position Title: Estimator/Scheduler
Type: Fulltime
Position Location: Fort McKay, Alberta, Head Office
Schedule: 40 Hours per week. Monday to Thursday (Alternating Friday off)
**This is a LOCAL position. Applicant must reside in the Fort McMurray Region**

Role Summary
We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Estimator with Civil Works experience to join our team of professionals. Bouchier is seeking to recruit a Senior Estimator to take the lead in preparing the pricing element of tenders ranging in value from $200k to $50M. The Senior Estimator will be required to prepare accurate estimates by gathering information and analyzing key metrics and provide knowledge of cost and benefits as well as detailed reports that support profitable business decisions. The Senior Estimator would also be required to assist other members of the Bid Team when required on larger tenders.
The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. You must also be thorough and apt in managing relationships with key persons, be equipped with extensive knowledge and experience with Civil estimating, have previous experience in construction project management, be organized, motivated, detail-oriented and driven.
Primary Responsibilities:

Identify labor, material, and time requirements by assessing proposals, drawings, specifications, and related documents.
-
Attend Pre bid meetings and perform site visits as required for tenders.
-
Perform Material Take Offs on drawings and develop Bills of Quantities where required.
-
Determine key variables for cost and other estimates
-
Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and relevant codes, standards, and regulations in all estimates.
-
Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Timberline, HeavyBid, etc.) to prepare accurate and efficient estimates.
-
Develop and maintain unit cost libraries and historical cost data for future estimating use.
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and procedures.

Utilize Business Central to upload estimates into digital platform
-
Coordinate with supply chain team to Prepare, issue, receive and review supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
-
Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
-
Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
-
Act as a resource to project management during the award / start-up phase to clarify any issues regarding what was considered in the estimate including materials and methods of construction.
-
Coordinate with the client on all changes in scope, questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the bidding process.
-
Develop project gantt chart; communicate with partners and team members regarding new and current projects.
-
In conjunction with the commercial manager, develop tender strategies and support RFx submissions.

Contribute to risk assessments and ensure all risks are included within the tender
-
Lead or support Value Engineering exercises.

Assure accuracy, competitiveness and compliance of all tenders.
-
Contribute to the submission document and Contract Documentation.
-
Support the commercial team in bid negotiations.
-
Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
-
Maintain cost data base by continually updating estimating Norms, entering and backing up data.
Education and Experience:
-
A minimum of 5 years experience as an estimator or cost planner in a civil works environment is necessary. Ideally the experience should have been gained in the oil and gas sector with a focus on civil works.

Background or certification in construction management, engineering and/or finance is an asset. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Advanced Microsoft Office skills in Excel, Word

Intermediate to advanced Computer skills

Outstanding mathematical skills

Excellent capacity to manage multiple bids/tender packages at one time

Proven success in civil estimating, planning, reporting research results and strategic project planning

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License; class 3 or 1 considered an asset

Valid CSTS and OSSA (Oil Sands Safety Association) orientation would be an asset

Natural ability to focus on customer service / customer requirements
