About the role
Director of Facilities Planning, Construction and Maintenance
MatchBox Consulting Group is supporting a confidential search for a Director of Facilities Planning, Construction and Maintenance with a mid-sized municipality in British Columbia.
This is an opportunity to step into a senior municipal leadership role with one of the fastest growing communities in BC. The community offers a rare mix of meaningful civic work, strong population growth, major long-term planning needs, and direct access to the outdoors, including mountains, trails, water, and year-round recreation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager of Community Development, the Director will lead the planning, development, construction, maintenance, and long-term asset management of civic facilities across the municipality.
This is not a narrow facilities maintenance role. It is a strategic leadership position responsible for shaping how a growing community plans, funds, builds, renews, and operates the public buildings its residents rely on.
The successful candidate will bring a strong blend of capital project leadership, facilities management, municipal or public sector experience, financial discipline, and people leadership. They will work closely with Council, senior leadership, internal departments, consultants, contractors, community stakeholders, and the public.
What You Will Lead
You will oversee a broad facilities portfolio that includes civic building operations, maintenance, property management, custodial services, facility renewal, capital planning, and major construction or redevelopment projects.
You will also lead the municipality’s long-term facilities planning and asset management strategy, ensuring buildings and infrastructure are planned and delivered in a way that supports community growth, service delivery, sustainability, and long-term financial responsibility.
This role will suit a leader who can move comfortably between strategy and execution. One day may involve long-range capital planning, Council reporting, budget preparation, or stakeholder engagement. The next may involve guiding project delivery, resolving operational issues, supporting staff, managing risk, or working through procurement and construction challenges.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have progressive experience in facilities planning, building construction, capital project delivery, maintenance management, or municipal infrastructure leadership.
You will bring strong knowledge of building design and construction, project delivery methods, preventative maintenance, asset management, risk management, budgeting, procurement, and contractor management.
Experience with municipal government, public sector governance, Council reporting, unionized teams, or civic facilities would be highly valuable. Just as important is the ability to lead people, build trust across departments, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and make sound decisions in a complex public environment.
A background in Engineering, Facilities Management, Building Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field would be well aligned. PMP certification or equivalent project leadership experience is also an asset.
Why This Role
This is a chance to take on a visible leadership mandate in a community that is actively growing and evolving.
For the right person, the appeal is the combination of scale, impact, and lifestyle. You will help shape the civic infrastructure of a community with real momentum, while living and working in a region known for outdoor access, natural beauty, and a high quality of life.
Compensation
The role offers a competitive senior leadership compensation package, including salary and comprehensive benefits. Further details will be shared with qualified candidates during the search process.
