The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is home to leading scientific experts who are dedicated to informing policy and practice on mental illness. IMHPR scientists conduct collaborative research on communities, populations, health systems, and global health, and they develop and evaluate prevention and intervention initiatives. IMHPR is committed to equity, informed by the social determinants of health. IMHPR is currently seeking a Research Methods Specialist, directly reporting to a Senior Scientist, will primarily be responsible for a range of research-related duties that will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of research investigations. The Research Methods Specialist will make direct contributions to the methodological design of studies, take part in statistical and methodological aspects of running of research investigations, manage large databases, and conduct high-level statistical analyses using statistical software packages that include SPSS, SAS, R, and MPlus. This position will also entail making significant contributions involving methodological and statistical aspects to the preparation of ethics review board protocols, grant proposals, manuscripts, and reports to funding agencies and government entities. This position will involve working independently and effectively in an inter-professional team environment as a key member of the scientific team. The successful candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at the 250 College Street site.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have at minimum an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Psychology, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of related experience with research, preferably in a university department or academic hospital setting. Previous experience conducting research in the field of mental health and addictions is preferred, and experience conducting research with HIV-positive populations and with sexual minority men is required. Experience conducting online and remote recruitment and intervention-delivery involving hard-to-access populations is required, as is demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodological approaches (e.g., randomized controlled trials; online surveys and interventions; community-based research; chart extraction, focus groups and interviews) and advanced statistical analytic skills, including mixed effects modelling, structural equation modelling, survival analysis, and multivariate analysis of variance. You will have been trained in research methods and statistical analysis, and possess demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); software packages and computer programming languages used for the development and administration of surveys and psychological experiments (e.g., Qualtrics, Redcap etc.); and statistical packages including SPSS, SAS, R, and MPlus. Candidates will have demonstrated ability to manage and analyze large databases. Previous experience in the grant application process regarding methodological and statistical aspects will be considered an asset. Leadership and team collaboration skills are essential as well as a proactive attitude and a willingness to be committed to and strive for continuous improvement. You will have the ability to multi-task and ensure all deadlines are met, have superior communication (oral and written), have exceptional interpersonal skills, and possess a strong creative problem-solving and organizational skill set. You will possess the ability to explain complex issues in plain language both verbally and in writing, and you will have the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
