As the Inside Sales & Procurement Representative, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring customers receive the right products at the right time while supporting the successful execution of critical infrastructure projects across Canada. Acting as the primary liaison between customers, manufacturers, suppliers, purchasing, logistics, and the Outside Sales team, you will manage quotations, sourcing, procurement, supplier relationships, project coordination, and customer support throughout the sales cycle.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise across technical sales, purchasing, procurement, vendor management, and supply chain operations while building long-term relationships with customers and some of the industry's leading manufacturers.
No previous utility industry experience is required as full corporate training is provided. Your attitude, initiative, and willingness to learn are what are critical to be successful in this process and in the position.
Responsibilities
Customer Relationship Management Build lasting relationships with customers by delivering responsive, knowledgeable, and professional service. Serve as the primary point of contact for quotations, product recommendations, purchasing inquiries, order status, and project support. Maintain regular communication regarding pricing, lead times, product availability, and delivery schedules. Support Outside Sales by managing key customer accounts and helping identify opportunities to grow existing business.
Inside Sales & Business Development
Prepare accurate quotations for utility, municipal, industrial, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects. Interpret customer specifications and recommend technically appropriate products and engineered solutions. Source products from industry-leading manufacturers to provide complete customer solutions. Identify opportunities to upsell complementary products and increase overall account value. Follow up on quotations to maximize sales conversion while strengthening customer relationships. Maintain accurate customer records, quotations, and opportunities within the company's CRM and ERP systems.
Purchasing & Procurement
Purchase products from approved manufacturers and supplier partners to support customer orders and inventory requirements. Generate and manage purchase orders while ensuring pricing, specifications, lead times, and delivery commitments are accurate. Verify pricing, freight, lead times, and special-order requirements while supporting company profitability objectives. Evaluate sourcing alternatives when necessary to meet customer delivery expectations. Monitor supplier acknowledgements and purchase order status to ensure commitments are achieved. Coordinate special orders and project-specific procurement activities from quotation through delivery. Assist with inventory replenishment and purchasing decisions based on customer demand and project forecasts.
Supplier & Vendor Relationship Management
Develop strong working relationships with manufacturers, supplier representatives, and strategic vendor partners. Coordinate with suppliers regarding product availability, technical documentation, certifications, and project requirements. Expedite critical materials required for customer projects while proactively managing supplier performance. Resolve supplier issues professionally while maintaining productive long-term business relationships. Participate in supplier product training and stay current on new technologies, product launches, and market developments.
Supply Chain & Project Coordination
Coordinate activities between customers, purchasing, suppliers, logistics providers, warehouse personnel, and Outside Sales. Monitor open orders, supplier shipments, and delivery schedules to ensure customer commitments are achieved. Proactively communicate potential supply chain disruptions while developing alternative sourcing solutions where appropriate. Support major utility and infrastructure projects by ensuring materials are delivered accurately and on schedule. Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to resolve shipping discrepancies, shortages, and delivery challenges. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement efficiency, order accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
Technical Product Development
Develop technical expertise across a broad range of electrical infrastructure products including: Medium- and high-voltage equipment Utility connectors and cable accessories Grounding and bonding systems Transformers Switchgear Wire and cable Utility hardware Engineered electrical solutions Learn to interpret customer requirements and recommend appropriate technical solutions. Continuously expand your knowledge through manufacturer training programs and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
2-5 years of experience in Inside Sales, Purchasing, Procurement, Customer Service, Account Management, or Supply Chain within industrial distribution, electrical products, utilities, manufacturing, construction, wholesale, or technical sales. Experience purchasing industrial or electrical products, coordinating suppliers, or managing procurement activities is considered a strong asset. Outstanding customer service and relationship-building skills. Strong communication and negotiation abilities with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Excellent organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong attention to detail when preparing quotations, purchase orders, and customer documentation. Comfortable learning technical products and understanding customer applications. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Proficiency with Microsoft Office along with ERP, CRM, and purchasing systems.
