Position Summary
Housekeeping Staff are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, staff, and visitors within the Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role includes performing cleaning tasks in resident rooms, common areas, and other facility spaces while adhering to infection control standards and safety protocols. Housekeeping Staff ensure that the facility provides a comfortable and welcoming environment for residents, supporting the overall well-being and quality of life in the LTC facility by performing routine cleaning tasks and adhering to hygiene protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and polishing floors, windows, walls, mirrors, closets and furniture across all areas of the facility, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, replenishing supplies as needed, and ensuring all surfaces are sanitized according to infection control guidelines.
  • Collect and dispose of waste, recycling in accordance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Perform routine and specialized floor cleaning, such as vacuuming, waxing, and buffing, to maintain facility flooring in excellent condition.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, using appropriate cleaning agents, PPE, and following safety protocols to minimize risks.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate cleaning supplies and materials, ensuring stock levels are replenished in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that common areas, resident rooms, and dining areas are clean, organized, and free of hazards that could impact resident safety.
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks and window washing, as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Report maintenance issues, damage, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor or facilities team in a timely manner to ensure prompt resolution.

Education & Certifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in housekeeping or custodial work, particularly in a healthcare or long-term care setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates thoroughness in maintaining a clean and organized environment, ensuring that all areas are thoroughly cleaned and meet the facility’s cleanliness standards.
  • Health & Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of health and safety protocols, including the safe handling of cleaning chemicals and the ability to identify and address potential hazards in the work environment.
  • Time Management: Efficient in completing cleaning tasks within designated time frames, balancing priorities and ensuring work is completed.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, residents, and visitors in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work with other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the facility.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address cleaning and maintenance issues promptly and effectively.
  • Customer Service: Being responsive to resident, family, and staff needs and concerns, ensuring a clean and comfortable environment for all individuals within the facility.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed within the GSDL, involving direct contact with residents.
  • This position requires shift work, which may include hours such as weekends, and holidays.
  • Cognitive demands include being aware of resident behaviours while working in a long-term care environment.
  • Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and working with cleaning equipment for extended periods.

  • Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
