THE ROLE
As a member of the peopleCare nursing team, this position provides for all aspects of nursing care and directs the work of nursing and personal care staff in the assigned unit. In performing these duties, the individual may assume the duties of charge nurse in an assigned unit. The position ensures all legislative standards, company policies and procedures and rule and regulations are adhered to in a professional manner
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that all nursing practices and conduct align with legislative requirements, resident plan of care and established nursing standards.
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care by assessing residents, monitoring vital signs, documenting health changes, and implementing tailored care plans that promote resident well-being.
- Administer prescribed medications accurately, observe and document their effects on residents, and ensure the secure handling of drugs and controlled substances.
- Uphold resident safety by following Health and Safety guidelines, reporting any hazards, and actively participating in infection prevention and control measures.
- Maintain precise and confidential resident records that comply with legislative standards, engage in quality assurance activities, and report any discrepancies promptly.
- Provide guidance and support to Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and other team members including PSW’s, assist in their training, and monitor their performance in delivering care.
- Serve as a liaison among physicians, supervisors, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring effective communication regarding resident care needs and changes.
- Commit to ongoing learning through participation in in-service education, mandatory training sessions, and reflective practice to maintain and enhance nursing competencies.
- Ensure that nursing supplies are available and properly maintained, facilitate the admission and discharge processes for residents, and support operational efficiency.
- Provide direction to nursing and personal care staff, oversee their documentation responsibilities, delegate appropriate tasks, and contribute to committees or teams aimed at improving resident care and services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario with an up-to-date certificate of Competency that is in good standing.
- Highly competent in role with sound clinical knowledge and ability to delegate unregulated employees.
- Experience in Long-Term Care is considered an asset.
- Experience working with seniors and unregulated care providers.
- Must possess strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management and customer focus skills.
