RESTORATIVE CARE AIDE
Responsibilities:
- Plans, implements and evaluates both individual and group restorative care programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist and Resident Program Manager.
- Monitors the behaviors and conditions of residents during programs and reports any significant changes to the RN, Physiotherapist and Resident Program Manager as appropriate.
- Monitor ongoing condition of activities of daily living skills and reports any significant changes to the RN, PT/OT and Program Manager.
- Participates in the development and revision of programs and services offered by RCA under the guidance of PT/OT and Program Manager.
- Maintains program and resident progress notes according to department policy, including initial assessments, quarterly assessments and care conferences.
- Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environmental and infection control.
- Works cooperatively with other departments, families and therapists for goal development and treatment to best suit the needs of the resident.
- Assess resident's abilities, values, interests, past experiences and readiness to learn through the use of the Restorative Resource Guide.
- Attend care conference/RAP meetings to provide evidence based results to the team and family members.
- Maintain and implement the Restorative feeding program daily and document in progress notes.
- Implements and follows a procedures and policies with the restorative nursing program.
- Supervises the Tai Chi Program
- Participate in departmental meetings, development of goals/objectives for department
- Other duties as assigned by Resident Program Manager.
Qualifications:
- Applicants will have a Diploma/Degree in Recreation/Activation with a certificate in Restorative Care and/or a degree in Kinesiology or certified in PTA/OTA.
- Must have experience working within a long-term care environment and have and have knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairments.
- Candidates should be team players and have strong English communication and organizational skills.
- Implementation, assessment and evaluation skills are also required.
- Candidates must posses the ability to document resident participation, goals and objectives as well as individual care plans.
- Bilingualism preferred; Fluency in Cantonese is an asset
- Proficient computer skills
- Knowledge of RAI MDS is an asset.
- Flexibility is a requirement as shifts are subject to change based on staffing. Must be available to work weekends and evening shifts.
- Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
