The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert is recruiting an individual to join our Financial and Strategic Services department as an Accountant III.

Reporting to the Financial Operations Controller – Revenue Services and Utilities, this position will be responsible for:

  • Billing, collection and recording of City revenues;

  • Implementing and maintaining strong financial controls;

  • Providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers;

  • Supervision of Revenue Services staff;

  • Updating quarterly and annual budget forecasts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage for the Financial Operations Controller – Revenue Services and Utilities and will provide support on various projects and financial reporting.

  • Assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of strong financial internal controls.

  • Provides support in ensuring that the highest standards of accountability for the City’s cash processes are adhered to.

  • Supervise a team of three (3) Revenue Services Coordinators which involves providing mentoring and guidance, establishing priorities, conducting performance reviews, and working with the team to identify opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.

This position involves extensive interaction with a variety of internal and external clients. A commitment to creating positive customer experiences in a professional manner and with strong communication skill is essential.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business with a major in Accounting or Finance.

  • Three years accounting experience, with a strong technical knowledge base in GAAP and preparation and review of year end financial statements.

  • Prior supervisory experience is a requirement.

  • Working towards a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation or CPA designated.

  • Municipal accounting and Public Sector Accounting Board experience is an asset.

  • Proficient user of the Microsoft Office Suite and various financial systems.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data to a variety of users.

  • Self- starter with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Hours of Work

  • We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
  • Benefit from flexible work hours by adjusting your start and end times by 30 or 60 minutes around our core hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Compensation

  • The salary ranges from $94,057 - $115,761 per annum including a comprehensive benefits package.

  • Candidates not meeting the full qualifications may be considered for a development opportunity at a lower classification and salary.
