Job purpose
The Continuous Improvement / Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for advancing operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives, driving health and safety compliance and culture, and supporting the implementation of the Magellan Operating System (MOS™).
This position reports to the CI & EHS Manager, and works collaboratively with all departments to assist in implementing strategic improvements and ensure compliance with all relevant standards, certifications, and government regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
Continuous Improvement (50%)
- Analyze key performance metrics across Quality, Manufacturing, and transactional processes to identify performance gaps and recommend improvement actions
- Lead the Continuous Improvement Steering Committee, driving a CI-focused culture and leading change management activities
- Support and execute CI events (e.g., Kaizen, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis)
- Conduct regular 6S audits and follow up with action plans to sustain workplace organization and efficiency
- Manage and promote the Continuous Improvement Suggestion and Incentive Awards Program (MAG-CI-MIZE) to drive innovation and employee engagement
- Represent the division at corporate Continuous Improvement Council meetings to align local initiatives with enterprise-wide goals
Health & Safety (35%)
- Serve as the Divisional Health & Safety Representative, overseeing workplace safety programs and compliance
- Track, analyze, and report safety metrics, and recommend preventative actions.
- Lead the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings, ensuring effective issue resolution and compliance with legislative requirements.
- Conduct thorough accident and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions and tracking follow-through
- Collaborate with Management and Union Leadership to maintain a cooperative approach to health and safety improvements
- Support corporate safety programs, including 6S audits and Overhead Crane Training initiatives
Magellan Operating System (MOS™) (15%)
- Support the implementation and sustainment of MOS™ tools, methodologies, and cultural elements
- Engage with cross-functional teams to promote standardized processes, visual management, and operational discipline
Additional Responsibilities
- Actively contribute as a member of the Corporate and Divisional Committees as required
Travel

May require occasional travel to corporate meetings or external training sessions
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Management, or related field
- 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on continuous improvement and/or health & safety
- Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar CI methodology is an asset
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Controlled Goods Program requirements
- Strong facilitation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
Physical requirements
The physical requirements of this job are minimal. The daily routine will entail sitting at a desk, general walking to and from meetings and conducting regular floor walks in the facility.
