Job Description The Department of Enterprise Risk and Emergency Preparedness is a corporate portfolio that provides leadership and operational support for the achievement of strategic directions and corporate objectives of THP. The department provides a full-range of risk management services, which includes the functional areas of: enterprise risk management, claims management, emergency management, and business continuity. The department serves as the corporate catalyst that enables the advancement of a comprehensive and continuous enterprise risk process where risks are identified, analyzed, and mitigated within acceptable risk tolerances.
Accountabilities Reporting to the Manager of Enterprise Risk and Emergency Preparedness, the Enterprise Risk Consultant will support the daily work of the department, which includes, but not limited to the following:
- Monitors and reports risk exposure and provides guidance to manager and other management on risk issues;
- Provides support / subject matter expertise to programs and projects through the identification of operational risks, evaluation and development of effective internal controls, and recommendations to manage and mitigate operational risks;
- Provides expert assistance with all levels of the organization to conduct targeted risk assessments in high-risk areas to support identification and inform implementation of appropriate risk controls;
- Serves as lead facilitator for cross-functional team meetings conducted in response to serious incidents;
- Supports the incident management reporting system through daily review of incidents, follow-up and identification of themes and trends.
- Maintains summaries of investigations, recommendations and status of corrective action plans in the incident reporting system database
- Coordinates product complaint management processes and facilitates reporting of mandatory medical device equipment reports to Health Canada;
- Supports and assists with investigations including claims, and working with police matters;
- Participates in appropriate committees and meetings as Risk representative;
- Provides advice on risk related issues in alignment with policies and best practices and legislation;
- Assists with the coordination and communication of various functions including incident review recommendations, meetings, presentations, reports and other items;
- Reviews policies and procedures to ensure alignment with latest recommendations and incident review findings;
- Reviews and aligns emergency management codes and policies with legislative and regulatory standards in collaboration with Emergency Preparedness Advisor
- Promotes knowledge of risk management and risk prevention through coaching and engagement with managers, units and other stakeholders as appropriate; and
- Provides leadership with information drawn from risk management activities to help inform organization priorities, strategic planning and operational management.
Qualifications
- A bachelor degree is required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred;
- Current registration in a regulated health profession is required;
- Minimum of 5 years of healthcare industry experience is required;
- Minimum of 5 years of risk management or related experience is strongly preferred;
- Formal education in enterprise risk management preferred;
- Formal education in patient safety is an asset;
- Superior organizational and time-management skills;
- Superior written and verbal skills;
- Excellent customer service and inter-personal skills;
- Excellent ability to work independently or within a dynamic team setting;
- Excellent decision-making, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Highly attentive to detail and quality;
- Advanced skills in MS Office, specifically with Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and
- Excellent attendance record.
