About the position
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director, Operations and Finance is responsible for the operational and financial management of the Council. The Director, Operations and Finance oversees:
- The establishment of the financial and operational policies and procedures to ensure the overall effectiveness and standards of the Council and all it’s programs are maintained.
- The budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and reporting of the Council and all it’s programs.
- The operational and financial alignment and collaboration across projects and programs.
- The development and execution of HR strategies to ensure a culture of collaboration, accountability and compliance with legislation.
As a member of the senior management team, the Director, Operations and Finance participates in establishing the strategic direction of the Council in accordance with it’s mission, vision and values..
Responsibilities
- Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of operational, financial and HR strategies to support and strengthen the Council’s corporate goals and objectives.
- Leads a small team of finance, IT and operational staff to support the efficient management of the organization.
- Develops and ensures compliance with financial and operational policies, controls and processes to support accountability and operational efficiency.
- Leads the development, monitoring and reporting of annual budgets.
- Manages cashflows, investment and financial risk.
- Leads the annual audit.
- Provides updates and reports on operational and financial results to various stakeholders including funders, government partners and the Board of Directors.
- Reports to the Council’s Standing Committee on Finance, Audit and Legal, a subcommittee of the Board of Directors.
- Ensures the IT infrastructure supports all the projects and programs of the Council.
- Provides guidance to staff in planning, managing, coordinating and monitoring project and program activities.
- Provides leadership and oversight for all Council funding agreements, including contract negotiation and preparation, ongoing monitoring and amendments, reporting requirements, and resolution of issues as they arise.
- Provides human resources expertise and guidance to the Council, addresses employee HR questions and concerns and oversees the development of employment documentation, including contracts and legal correspondence.
- Leads and overseas the development and implementation of the performance planning and review process.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or equivalent
- Accounting designation (an asset)
- 10 years’ experience working in a similar capacity
- 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Significant experience in all aspects of managerial accounting
- Familiarity with the reporting and administrative requirements associated with public funding processes; particularly in the not-for-profit sector
- Experience in budget and cash flow management
- Experience working with teams and committees
- Ability to lead, motivate and engage team members
- Exceptional written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work individually and within a team environment
- Ability to manage large budgets, multiple stakeholders, consultants and staff

Salary Range: $100,000 to $130,000 + Bonus
