Job purpose
Responsible for the planning, design, development, training, implementation, evaluation, and support of clinical information systems initiatives. The position brings the clinical knowledge and leadership required to lead clinicians, departments, and programs through business process and patient flow redesign.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Project management
- Provides project/program management support including conceptualizing, work planning, resourcing, and evaluating various projects.
- Manages or assists with project management responsibilities, such as ensuring timely delivery of products and services by tracking project activities, timelines, and project deliverables.
- Assists the project team with the planning, design, development, training, implementation, evaluation, and support of clinical applications.
2. Training
- Develop documentation for both custom-built and packaged applications, using various delivery formats.
- Select appropriate training delivery methods (e.g., classroom sessions, webcasts, e-learning) and conduct training accordingly.
- Create training evaluation metrics to monitor and assess the effectiveness of training programs.
- Oversee external vendors in the development of training content and delivery of training sessions.
- Actively contribute to the development and implementation of training and support plans, including:
- Formal and informal training.
- Ongoing and refresher sessions.
- Ad hoc training as needed.
3. Upgrade management
- Review upgrade documentation to identify new features and assess their impact on existing workflows.
- Incorporate relevant new features into UOHI workflows and present proposed changes to working groups at UOHI and ATLAS ALLIANCE for approval.
4. Support
- Provide support to all Epic users, acting as a liaison between stakeholders and various support teams.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring business and regulatory compliance requirements are met.
- Assist staff and clinicians by identifying, isolating, and resolving issues related to Hospital Information Systems.
- Help in Developing SmartPhrases with staff.
- Help train and manage clinical templates in Epic for staff.
5. Committee working group
- Participate in ATLAS Alliance working groups, including Ambulatory/Cadence and Cupid.
- Follow up on decision points by directing questions to the appropriate UOHI staff for input or resolution.
- Chair the UOHI Epic Committee, with responsibilities including:
- Preparing meeting agendas.
- Taking and distributing meeting minutes.
- Managing follow-ups on action items.
- Presenting upcoming Epic changes and updates during meetings.
Required qualifications
Education:
- Nurse or Physician designation or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
- Strong cardiac surgery knowledge and experience.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Efficient at reviewing clinical charts and medical records.
- Understanding the workflow at UOHI.
- Strong medical interpretation skills.
- Expert in data query and analysis.
- Experience working with Epic.
- Problem solving.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work demands.
- Independent worker.
- Teamwork.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous UOHI experience.
- General knowledge of UOHI workflow and Epic credential knowledge and experience.
