About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Senior OT Site Process Control Technologist at our Foster Creek facility.

In this role, you will provide technical logic programming and analysis support to Operations, Maintenance and Engineering for daily operational changes and longer-term management of change improvement projects.

While this vacancy is currently at Foster Creek, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of our three Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment:

Foster Creek & Christina Lake

• This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation
• Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities
• Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations
• Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton
• Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB

Sunrise

• This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation
• Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.
• Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton
• At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities

What you’ll do:

• Standards, Documentation & Training – Maintain team/configuration standards, workflow dashboards, training requirements, and contribute to the Operations Technology Knowledge Base (“How to Manual”), ensuring procedures and findings are current.

• Safety & Compliance – Participate in Cenovus safety programs, report IMS incidents, support production loss investigations, and identify system gaps; ensure DCS/PLC/SCADA compliance with configuration, graphics, optimization, and best practices.

• Daily Operations Support – Provide process control support for Area Work Teams (Field/Well Pads, PDO, Water Re-use, Steam & Utilities), troubleshoot issues, complete shift work with Operations & Maintenance, and assist with bypass requests, force logic changes, and daily bump tests.

• Outages, Turnarounds & After-Hours – Support planning and execution of facility outages and turnaround projects, including PCS work; provide after-hours troubleshooting and onsite call-in support as needed.

• Communication & Collaboration – Ensure effective cross-shift communication through logs, handovers, and request tracking; support OT onsite systems; collaborate with Operations teams, HAZOP, FAT, process trials, and peer reviews of programming/logic for MOC’s, RTC OIPs, PTRs, and WOs.

• MOC & Projects – Implement and complete automation MOC project packages; ensure programming matches controlled documentation (P&ID’s, ESDK, Data Sheets, Control Narratives, I/O drawings); support Operations Improvement Projects and trials.

• Documentation & Turnover – Redline, as-build, review, approve, and hand over project/MOC documentation; implement pre-commissioning/commissioning packages, identify deficiencies, and maintain accurate working documentation and time tracking.

• System Integrity – Ensure Asset Electronic Shutdown Key (eSDK) is accurately programmed, maintained, and fully aligned with As Built requirements.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Engineering degree with 8+ years related experience, ASET certification in electrical or instrumentation preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
• Alternative education coupled with direct experience (Journeyman Certification) in similar role.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
