About the role

Description

North Burlington Baptist Church (NBBC) is seeking a Senior Pastor to provide spiritual and pastoral leadership to the congregants of the church. We are a church that values authentic relationships, biblical teaching, and practical discipleship. Worship services feature a contemporary style that blends meaningful music, prayer, and Scripture-based preaching.

Overview of Church and Community

Located north of the QEW in Burlington, Ontario, NBBC is a mid-sized community church with a congregation of about 120 in weekly attendance with a healthy, financially stable ministry that is positioned for continued growth and impact. Services are streamed online and broadcast through Cogeco television, extending the church’s reach beyond its physical gathering and into the broader community.

The church is supported by a collaborative staff team that currently includes a part-time Children and Family Pastor, a part-time Worship Arts and Discipleship Pastor, and Administrative Support staff. Together with dedicated volunteers, they foster ministries that serve children, families, adults, and seniors throughout the congregation.

North Burlington Baptist Church is affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec and Canadian Baptist Ministries. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and will be in alignment with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec guidelines.

Qualifications And Education Requirements

Requirements: The successful candidate will be an ordained minister recognized by the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec, or another Christian denomination / Baptist Convention of another country, whose ordination standards are acceptable to the Credentials Committee of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. The candidate will agree to NBBC’s statement of faith, core values, and will agree with NBBC’s theological statements and lifestyles documents.

Education: Master of Divinity/Theology from a recognized theological institution is preferred.

Status: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada; NBBC is not in the position to support a work permit process for any applicant outside of Canada.

Reports to: Church Board of Directors.

Role and Responsibilities

Core Areas Of Responsibility

Preaching and Teaching

Provide biblically faithful, Christ-centered preaching and teaching that inspires spiritual growth and practical discipleship. Communicate Scripture with clarity and relevance and connecting to everyday life. Serve as the primary preacher while equipping others to teach within the life of the church.

Vision and Leadership

Working with existing ministry staff, leadership, and church members the senior pastor prayerfully establishes short and long-term vision for the church. Foster a culture of mission throughout the church.

Discipleship and Spiritual Formation

Champion discipleship initiatives that encourage spiritual growth across all life stages, from children and youth to adults and seniors. Equip and empower individuals to grow as followers of Jesus and to serve according to their gifts. Support and strengthen pathways for faith formation, leadership development, and ministry engagement.

Family and Community Engagement

Provide leadership in reaching, welcoming, and integrating new attendees, with a particular focus on young families. Cultivate a church culture that encourages meaningful relationships, and active participation. Lead efforts to retain visitors and help them become fully engaged members of the church community.

Pastoral Care

Along with the Elders, offer compassionate pastoral care and spiritual support during times of crisis, transition, and need. Understand the value and limits of pastoral care, providing appropriate guidance. Model healthy ministry boundaries while maintaining a caring and accessible pastoral presence.

Team Development and Collaboration

Work collaboratively with existing ministry staff, church leaders, and volunteers to advance the mission and ministries of the church. Delegate responsibilities effectively, empowering others to lead and serve in meaningful ways. Mentor, encourage, and equip ministry leaders and volunteers for effective service.

Board Relations

Work closely with the Board to provide strategic direction, and organizational oversight. Support the Board in decision-making processes through prayer, collaboration, and clear communication. Ensure ministry priorities align with the church’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.

Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep commitment to Jesus Christ, a passion for pastoral ministry, and a proven ability to lead and equip a congregation in fulfilling its mission.

Accreditation in good standing with CBOQ is required. Candidates not currently accredited must be eligible and willing to pursue accreditation and maintain good standing as a condition of continuing in the position. A mature and growing Christian faith, characterized by spiritual integrity, humility, and a commitment to biblical truth. A minimum of 10 years of pastoral ministry experience, preferably including experience serving as a Senior Pastor. Demonstrated ability to provide strong, Scripture-based preaching and teaching that is engaging, relevant, and inspiring. Proven leadership experience within a church setting, with the ability to cast vision, lead change, and foster congregational unity. Experience working within a team ministry environment, valuing collaboration, shared leadership, and the development of staff and volunteers. Excellent communication skills in English, both in-person and through digital platforms, with the ability to connect effectively with people of diverse ages and backgrounds. NBBC is a community church and has a long history of pastoral staff living in the neighbourhood, therefore, preference will be given to those living in Burlington or willing to relocate.
