The Opportunity

The City of Wetaskiwin is seeking someone who enjoys facilitating recreation programs, encouraging young minds, has excellent customer service skills and wants to positively contribute to our community through dryland programming! Reporting to the Recreation Program Facilitator, this position will work within a team to help lead programming that encourages participants to improve their self-confidence, independence, build new skills, and create a fun and unique experience. This position is responsible for creating a positive environment for participants and to ensure their health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, facilitate and adapt programming.
  • Provide leadership and act as a role model to all participants.
  • Engage children in a positive and encouraging environment.
  • Be familiar with the medical conditions, dietary restrictions, and or behavioral problem of children enrolled and act according to information and training provided.
  • Maintain positive public image through customer service and communication.
  • Assist in cleaning up after activities and at the end of each program.
  • Report any incidents or accidents to the Recreation Program Facilitator.
  • Ensure that safety standards and procedures are maintained.
  • Adhere to all City of Wetaskiwin Policies, Directives and Procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Have or be willing to obtain valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification.
  • Previous experience working with children and youth.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Previous recreation programming experience is an asset.
  • Provide a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Red Cross Youth Leader Certification is an asset.
  • High Five Sport Certification is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of recreation service delivery and customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Effort and Safety Commitment

  • Climbing ladders, balancing, crawling, standing, walking, stairs, kneeling, manual dexterity, visual acuity, lifting up to 20lbs.
  • The employee is responsible for full cooperation with all aspects of the City’s Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program, including compliance with all rules and regulations, and for continually practicing safety while performing duties, and monitor and enforce subordinate compliance with the OH&S program.

Hours of Work

  • This position will work up to 29 hours a week.
  • The position is primarily evenings and weekends, with daytime availability being required for PD Days and summer months.
  • Shift premium for hours worked before 7:00 a.m. and after 7:00 p.m. daily.
