We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Operator Class II to join our team.

Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Planning & Public Works and/or Lead Hand, the Water/Wastewater Operator Class II is responsible for:

  • Technical inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of our water treatment and distribution systems
  • Technical inspection, operation, maintenance and repair of our wastewater collection and treatment systems
  • Performing and assisting in maintaining components of the water and wastewater systems, including pneumatic, electronic and hydraulic controls, water pumps, filtration systems, water reservoirs, chlorination and chemical treatment, sewage pumps and sewage pumping stations.
  • Preforming regular water and sewer laboratory analysis and ensuring systems documentation and best practices are followed. Ensures services provided are in accordance with enforcement and regulatory procedures including occupational health and safety laws, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications With your post secondary degree or college diploma in an environmental science/technician program you possess a minimum of five years of experience in a comparative field. Preferably with Level II water & wastewater treatment and distribution certifications, and one (1) or more years' experience working on public water and sewage systems; familiarity and use of computer systems and Microsoft office software; experience and certification as a water and/or sewage systems operator (minimum level 1 certification; water treatment; water distribution; wastewater collection); ability to communicate, understand, and effectively interact both verbally and written and to work in teams; ability to handle emergency situations, work under pressure and stress; knowledge of applicable Provincial and Federal codes, regulations and laws; knowledge of work practices and methods applicable to a municipal setting including public works and Council policies; knowledge of occupational hazards and strict compliance with applicable safety practices, policies and procedures; flexibility to work weekends and overtime hours. A condition of employment for current level I certified applicants will be to certify to level II water and wastewater treatment and distribution certifications within one year of employment.

$34.19 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. Applicable employer pension plan, group benefits plan, wellness benefit, annual leave, sick leave, observed holidays, and five floater days for personal days off.
