This MSc Bursary will start in October 2025 and end in March 2027.

Scholarship of $25,500/year divided into 3 equal installments each year. It is expected that the student will work approximately 22.5 hours per week for up to an 18 month period.

Duties

Field mapping, Structural Geology aAalysis, Pseudo-Section Pressure-Temperature Modelling, in-situ ICP-MS geochronology, completion of current research reports and journal papers for a MSc thesis.

Intent of the process

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of an M.Sc. degree, specializing in pressure-temperature metamorphic modelling, field mapping and in situ ICP-Ms geochronology, supervised by Dr. Sally Pehrsson at the Geological Survey of Canada (Ottawa) and Dr. Brendan Dyck at The University of British Columbia-Okanagan (Kelowna).

A covering letter "of approximately 500 words, outlining your interest and specifically detailing how you meet the essential education and experience qualifications listed below (please include how, when, and where this education and experience was obtained)."

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Essential Education:

  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization relevant to the duties of the position. Proof will be required before the start date.
  • Students enrolled or eligible to enroll in a MSc program at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan with specialization in Pressure-Temperature Metamorphic Modelling, Field Mapping and in situ ICP-Ms geochronology. Proof will be required before the start date.

Degree equivalency

Essential Experience:
In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities. The successful candidates are expected to have experience in:

  • 2 years of field experience in mapping from a remote Northern geology camp.
  • Experience with Peudosection Pressure-Temperature modelling as evidenced by journal papers or Honours BSc thesis topic.

NOTE: Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment. Therefore, the student will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-related documents.

  • For fieldwork, the student must be able to pass a Health Canada health assessment, and possess or obtain safety courses as needed, including first aid/CPR.
