Under the supervision of the President, the Regional Director of Technical Services is responsible for leading Systemair North America’s Technical Services organization, including the Application Engineering team, Technical Services team, and oversight of the Support Operations Center (SOC) located in Toronto, Ontario. This role ensures exceptional technical support for customers, sales teams, and internal partners while driving operational excellence, engineering accuracy, and high service standards across the region.

This position plays a critical role in supporting Systemair’s ventilation and air handling unit (AHU) product portfolio by providing advanced technical expertise in HVAC, mechanical systems, controls, and electrical installation. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in mechanical engineering, HVAC ventilation systems, air handling equipment, controls integration, and electrical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Application Engineering team, Technical Services team, Inside Sales, Customer Service, and SOC Onsite Manager.
  • Develop team capabilities through coaching, training, and professional development.
  • Establish performance objectives, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives across all technical support functions.
  • Foster collaboration between Technical Services, Sales, Engineering, Product Management, and factory operations.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Support Operations Center (SOC) in Toronto, ensuring timely and accurate support for application engineering, troubleshooting, and product selection.
  • Ensure consistency and harmonization of technical processes, tools, and documentation across the region.
  • Develop and refine technical workflows including application review, submittal support, system troubleshooting, and field escalation procedures.
  • Provide advanced technical leadership on Systemair’s ventilation, controls, fans, and AHU product lines.
  • Support field teams, distributors, and customers with complex technical inquiries, system diagnostics, and commissioning support.
  • Handling the field services technical issues with the Reps, Contractors, etc.
  • Oversee resolution of escalated issues, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Contribute to product improvement efforts by identifying recurring challenges, design gaps, and customer needs.
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering on new product releases, enhancements, and technical documentation.
  • Work closely with the Sales organization to ensure technical alignment and support during pre-sales and post-sales activities.
  • Support the development of training programs for internal teams, representatives, contractors, and end users.
  • Ensure compliance with regional codes, standards, and industry best practices related to HVAC, electrical, safety, and controls.
  • Implement quality assurance measures for technical documentation, drawings, submittals, and engineering recommendations.
  • Standardize troubleshooting and commissioning guidelines for end users and field technicians.

Skills, Education, and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Licensed Electrician or related field (required).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or COQ designation/license, preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in HVAC, ventilation systems, AHUs, and controls.
  • Strong background in controls integration, DDC, PLC, BAS, and system commissioning.
  • Experience leading technical teams, engineering groups, or service operations.
  • Proven ability to manage remote teams and multi-site support organizations.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience within the ventilation and air handling industry (highly preferred).
  • Advanced understanding of HVAC codes, mechanical standards, NEC/CEC electrical standards, and ventilation guidelines.
  • Experience with CRM or Case Management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic capabilities for field issues and system behaviors.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical information.
  • Experience creating factory authorized contractor training programs.

Job Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and looking at a computer.
  • Moderate physical effort – may require access to mechanical rooms, rooftops, car parks, and AHU installations, when required.
  • Sitting, walking, lifting, squatting, pushing, or reaching for intermittent or extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • Factory, Warehouse, Distribution Center, Office.
  • May be exposed to loud, repetitive sounds from machinery or equipment.
  • Remote with regular travel (25-40%) across North America for factory visits, customer sites, training, and meetings.
