Maintenance Assistant (3-Month Path to Maintenance Supervisor)

About the Role
Elmwood Spa is hiring a Maintenance Assistant to support hands-on repairs and preventive maintenance across four downtown outlets, primarily located in the same building, with occasional support at elmspa.
This role starts as a hands-on Maintenance Assistant. If successful after a 3-month probation, you’ll move into a Maintenance Supervisor position, working alongside the Building Operator and Housekeeping Supervisor to keep spaces safe, guest-ready, and running smoothly.
Driver’s license and a clean driver abstract are required at hire.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on repairs and preventive maintenance across four outlets (minor plumbing/electrical/lighting, patch & paint, doors/hardware, basic HVAC troubleshooting).
- Complete regular inspections and address issues quickly to keep spaces safe, clean, and guest-ready.
- Coordinate vendors/trades for specialized work; confirm quality, safety, and completion.
- Manage work orders/quotes/approvals and track invoices and follow-ups.
- Coordinate required inspections/service visits and maintain clear maintenance/compliance records.
- During probation, work closely with the Facilities/Operations team to learn standards and procedures; after promotion, help coordinate daily priorities and support teammates alongside the Building Operator and Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for urgent after-hours issues and document actions taken.
What You Bring
- Full-time (40 hours/week) with an on-call rotation for urgent after-hours issues.
- 2–3 years of building/facilities maintenance (or strong hands-on experience); 1–3 years of supervisory experience is an asset for the post-probation supervisor step.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC/mechanical and general troubleshooting.
- Pool maintenance experience and WHMIS (current or able to obtain); trade/facilities training is a plus.
- Familiarity with an HRIS (Human Resources Information System) is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract and reliable transportation; flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends (vendor access, urgent items).
- Able to complete a background check, as required for the role.
- Hands-on, safety-minded, and quality-focused; comfortable working in a busy hospitality environment where appearance and guest experience matter.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- By the end of probation, you can independently handle day-to-day repairs and preventive maintenance and follow site standards across all four outlets.
- You’re organized with work orders and vendor follow-ups, and ready to step into the Maintenance Supervisor role, partnering with the Building Operator and Housekeeping Supervisor on daily priorities and guest-readiness.
