This is customer service and reception work performed within the City’s Recreation Department. An incumbent performs front line customer service, including but not limited to providing information to the public, program registration, bookings, sales and promotional assistance. They will also process payments, including but not limited to collecting revenues for program registrations, admissions, pass sales and other revenues. The work is performed in accordance with clearly defined policies and procedures and is evaluated by a supervisor on the basis of accuracy and quality of customer service provided to the public.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Receives payments by cash, cheque or credit card made in person or by mail for a variety of accounts and services; makes change; and issues receipts. Process payments (cash, cheque, credit card), issues receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
- Responds to inquiries and provides factual information and assistance to the public in person, by phone, and online.
- Registers customers in programs, maintains records, and reconciles cash reports and bank deposits.
- Represents the City and the Department in a positive, professional and customer friendly manner.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties, including data entry, filing, and collecting statistical data.
- Maintains the work area and promotional displays organized and in a professional manner.
- Performs duties related to overall facility safety procedures, i.e. Floor Warden, Missing Person.
- Performs related work as required.
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- Completion of Grade 12 plus relevant customer service training and experience, including cash handling and point-of-sale systems.
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR Level ‘C’ and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Knowledge of recreation programs, registration procedures, and departmental policies.
- Strong customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to receive payments, make change, issue and balance receipts and account summaries.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
- Sound computer skills and familiarity with a variety of software applications related to the work performed, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with a customer service focused manner.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and Statutory Holidays.
