Dr. Apooyak’ii / Tiffany Hind Bull-Prete is seeking 1–2 Graduate Assistants (GAs) with K-12 teaching experience to serve as curriculum developers, supporting the creation of a comprehensive educator resource to accompany a video series co-created in partnership with Elders from the Blood Reserve. The resource will assist K–12 teachers in thoughtfully and respectfully integrating Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into their classrooms.

Project Overview:
The video series—currently unpublished—features teachings, cultural knowledge, and personal stories shared by Elders from the Blood Reserve. Curriculum Developers GAs will use preparatory materials produced by Learning Analysts GAs to design age-appropriate lesson plans, assessments, and classroom guides aligned with the Alberta K–12 Program of Studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review preparatory materials from Learning Analysts GAs (annotated transcripts, resource guides, discussion prompts, teacher guidance notes).
  • Design lesson plans that are culturally appropriate, pedagogically sound, and aligned with Indigenous knowledge principles and the Alberta K–12 Program of Studies.
  • Develop assessment tools and evaluation rubrics for lesson activities.
  • Create implementation notes suggesting pacing, adaptations for different grade levels, and strategies for mixed-ability classrooms.
  • Integrate feedback from the Elder/Knowledge Holder into lesson plans and assessments.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all project materials; do not share or distribute content without written permission.
  • Submit weekly progress reports and participate in weekly RA check-ins and monthly meetings with the PI and Elder/Knowledge Holder.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant graduate program in the Faculty of Education.
  • Familiarity with lesson planning, classroom design, and instructional strategies.
  • Teaching experience and knowledge of the Alberta K–12 Program of Studies is an asset but not required.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining distinct responsibilities from Learning Analyst GAs.

Technological Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Google Workspace, and collaborative online platforms.
  • Comfortable using Zoom or Microsoft Teams for virtual meetings.

Deliverables:

  • Fully developed lesson plans aligned with the Alberta K–12 Program of Studies.
  • Assessment activities and evaluation rubrics.
  • Implementation notes for classroom adaptation and pacing.
  • Weekly progress reports.

Application Process:
Please submit a CV and cover letter to tiffany.prete@uleth.ca detailing your interest in the position, relevant skills, and experience.

As part of your application, please submit a sample lesson plan (1–2 pages in length) that explicitly aligns with Alberta curriculum standards by citing the relevant outcomes or competencies. Applicants may choose any subject area and grade level; however, lesson plans that address Indigenous histories, cultures, reconciliation, or social studies are strongly encouraged.

Your submission should include a separate one-paragraph rationale (approximately one page) explaining your pedagogical approach and how the lesson plan reflects your teaching philosophy. Together, the lesson plan and rationale should not exceed three pages in total.

The lesson plan will be used solely for evaluation purposes by the hiring committee and will not be shared outside of this context. File format may be submitted in Word or PDF.

Applications are due by September 2, 2025.

Graduate Assistant wages will be paid according to Schedule A of the ULGSA Collective Agreement.
