About the role

Hillberg & Berk, a Canadian owned, women-led, purpose driven jewellery brand, is seeking a strategic planner with a passion for product performance and customer insights to join our team as a Merchant!
About the Role
For our Merchant, everything begins and ends with the client. You have a genuine eye for product, the commercial rigor to back every decision with data, with a strong gut instinct. In this role, you will have a real impact. You’ll shape seasonal assortments, drive category performance, and work side-by-side with Design, Product Development, Planning, Marketing, and Operations to bring the right product to market at the right time.
What You’ll Do
Assortment & Strategy

  • Build and manage seasonal line plans that balance creativity, commercial viability, and newness across categories.

  • Define pricing architecture, hit margin targets, determine product lifecycles. You will actively manage exits and transitions to maintain assortment freshness.

  • Recommend buy depth, product ranking, and allocation strategies in partnership with Demand Planning.

  • Integrate customer insights, trend intelligence, and competitive analysis into every assortment decision.

  • Partner with Design and Product Development from concept through proto review, weighing in on materials, craftsmanship, and finishes to ensure creative vision is commercially grounded.

  • Bring a customer lens to product development decisions, connecting the dots between what she wants and what we build.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Demand Planning to align on open-to-buy, inventory flow, and category-level targets.

  • Partner with Marketing and channel leads (Retail, Digital, Wholesale) to align product storytelling, pricing, and launch timing.

  • Drive product readiness within the go-to-market calendar and represent Merchandising in cross-functional forums.

Analysis & Performance

  • Track sell-through, markdowns, IMU, and inventory productivity to surface opportunities and flag risks early.
  • Deliver clear, actionable reporting on performance versus plan by category, channel, and class.
  • Present business health, assortment strategy, and forward plans to senior leadership with clarity and confidence.
  • Lead post-season recaps to capture learnings and feed them directly into future assortment decisions.
  • Conduct regular comp shopping monitoring competitor pricing, promotional activity, and product launches to keep H&B sharp and well-positioned.
  • Identify whitespace and growth opportunities through ongoing market and competitive analysis.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate line plans, visual documents, and product data with a high standard of detail.

  • Ensure all merchandising activities are integrated into seasonal calendars and cross-functional workflows.

What You Bring

  • 3–6 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or assortment planning in fashion, jewelry, or lifestyle.

  • Genuine product taste: you understand what makes a collection feel cohesive, desirable, and right for the customer.

  • Client Obsessed: you think about her first and work backward to the product.

  • Strong retail math fundamentals: you understand IMU, sell-through, margin, and open-to-buy.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to turn data into clear, confident recommendations.

  • Comfortable presenting to leadership: you can tell a story with data and make a room feel confident in a decision.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented: you keep line plans clean, deadlines met, and priorities straight.

  • Natural collaborator who communicates clearly and builds trust across teams.

  • Comfortable managing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Curious and growth-oriented: you ask good questions, seek feedback, and want to keep getting better.

  • Experience across multiple channels (retail, digital, wholesale) is a plus.
