Job Title: Forklift Operator (Material Handling) – Full-Time
Job Summary
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently loading and unloading trucks and trailers. You will work closely with the shipping and receiving coordinator and operations supervisor or terminal/operations manager, along with our drivers, outside carriers and other operational staff as required.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to move products and materials throughout the Terminal efficiently. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to perform heavy lifting as needed.
Job Responsibilities
Material Handling
Work in accordance with all terminal procedures and policies Safe operation of all equipment Completing daily inspection of equipment and working area and documenting the inspection activity.
Responsible for unloading and loading freight from trailers and the loading dock
Documentation of all products, trailers and companies being loaded or unloaded. Inspecting all freight for proper packing, signs of damage or concealed damage. Inspecting each item loaded or unloaded for clear and accurate labelling to avoid risks of errors in furtherance Correcting mislabeled products immediately when found.
Assisting in loading and load securement by hand or with provided equipment
Other duties as assigned by the direct Supervisor / Manager.
Housekeeping
Sweeping floors in company-owned trailers before loading or when finished unloading Keeping the loading dock and warehouse clean and picking up garbage as you work Sweeping the dock floors to keep them clean and free of clutter Putting all tools, equipment, and documents away where they belong after use and at the end of the shift.
Communications And Documenting Work Completed
Complete a daily activity log and turn it in to the supervisor at the end of each shift Informing the shipper, receiving coordinator, and supervisor when specific tasks are completed Reporting all incidents or near misses to the supervisor. Completing incident reports for any damage, claims or near-miss incidents, including accidents causing injury or property damage Other duties Some heavy lifting may be required. May be required to complete load transfers by hand. Forklift work, as required, to help with the dock's daily workflow. Any other ad hoc relevant job duties as required/assigned from time to time.
Qualifications/Skills
Ø 2+ years of safe forklift operation
Ø Excellent Customer Service skills
Ø Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
Ø Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
Ø Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, walk, bend, case picking and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Ø Able to work in hot or cold temperatures and a moderately dusty environment at times.
Ø Safety-oriented
Ø Task-oriented – self-motivating.
Ø Proficient use of English, both written and spoken; additional languages considered an asset.
Certifications
Ø Forklift certified, current Forklift Operator’s license
Ø TDG Certification
Ø WHMIS certified
Ø Valid driver’s license
