Reporting to the Manager Reputation and Story, and supporting a team of senior communicators, this role is a key contributor to a variety of projects and initiatives from across the Communications Division, including internal, external and member communications. With a heavy focus on writing, this position plays an integral role in bringing the Servus story and brand to life across internal and external channels.

Through coordination and implementation of communications plans and tactics, this role will have a hand in a wide variety of projects and initiatives from across the Communications Division. In particular, this role will support the efficacy of Servus's Intranet while providing communications support to a variety of strategic initiatives from across the organization. The role will also support efforts to proactively manage and share the Servus story across external facing channels.

The role will also provide coordination and logistical support to initiatives within the Division, including townhalls, events and executive speaking opportunities. Additionally, the role will support and lead special projects, as assigned, and will also provide support to the Vice President Communications.

Ultimately, this role will be a key contributor to the success of the Communications Division. With exposure to a wide range of projects, issues and opportunities, this is a great development opportunity for an early-career communicator, with potential for upwards momentum within the Division.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provides support for communications programs and projects across the Communications Division. This includes implementing a range of internal and external communications plans and tactics.

  • Writes content for a variety of communications channels as assigned, including website, social media and (in particular) the Servus intranet.

  • Writes and coordinates development of communications materials across a range of formats including print, digital and video.

  • Collaborates with and provides communications support to a team of Strategic Communications Partners who support key portfolios and strategic initiatives across Servus.

  • At the direction of the Intranet Lead, implements regular postings to the Servus intranet and coordinates/supports ongoing upkeep and governance of the Intranet.

  • Supports efficacy of internal communications channels and acts as the "resident expert" of Servus's Yammer platform for employees.

  • Provides back-up support for content-related roles, including posting to social media and the Servus website.

  • Provides logistical support for Division initiatives, including townhalls and internal/external events, including coordination and booking of events.

  • Supports Managers with efforts to build the profile of Servus executives within and outside the organization.

  • Writes and coordinates internal and external speeches.

  • Supports monitoring and reporting with the division through compiling analytics and updating reports.

  • Supports and leads communications projects as assigned. This will include development and implementation of communications plans.

  • Provides communications and occasional administrative support to the Vice President, Communications as well as members of the Communications Leadership Team.

  • Helps ensure the Crisis Communications Plan and protocols are current and supports ongoing evolution of Servus's approach to crisis response.

  • Other duties as required.

What you bring:

Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years of communications experience is required.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Knowledge of Intranets, Yammer, Teams and SharePoint is preferred.

  • Experience and/or training in graphic design and/or video production for communication is an asset.

  • Experience working withing a large/complex organization is an asset.

  • Experience working in a cooperative / member-based organization is an asset.

  • Marketing communications and/or brand experience is an asset.

  • Experience and/or training in graphic design, visual design, user experience and/or video for communication is an asset.

Education and Training:

  • College diploma or university degree related to public relations, communications or journalism or a related discipline.

Any other special requirements necessary to do the job:

This position requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule and may require evening and/or weekend work.

This position is remote first, it will require periodic travel to Edmonton, AB and occasional evening and weekend work.

The business may from time to time ask for branch and/or department support for special projects and/or areas experiencing staff shortages. All employees may be asked to volunteer to assist in areas of need during these times. These assignments could result in a change of hours, location, and/or travel.
