Position Overview
We are seeking a People and Culture Coordinator to join our team at our House located in downtown Toronto, at 240 McCaul Street, Toronto. This role will report to the Manager, People and Culture, and will support a variety of People & Culture and volunteers engagement functions, ensuring a positive, inclusive, and engaged workplace. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you’ll support day-to-day HR operations, help onboard new team members, and coordinate programs that strengthen engagement across RMHC Toronto locations.
While RMHC Toronto offers a flexible work environment, the requirements of this position include regular attendance on-site to support our front-line mission of supporting families.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Coordinate end-to-end recruitment and onboarding for employees and volunteers
- Schedule interviews, conduct reference checks, prepare offers, and manage job postings
- Track compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, certifications)
- Facilitate onboarding sessions, prepare training materials, and support payroll setup
HR Administration & Systems Support
- Maintain HR data in PayWorks, HRIS, and Volgistics
- Ensure data integrity, prepare reports, and recommend process improvements
- Support HRIS upgrades and enhancements to optimize efficiency
Employee & Volunteer Engagement
- Help plan and deliver recognition events, wellness programs, and appreciation activities
- Support logistics and communications for staff and volunteer initiatives
- Track participation and gather feedback to continuously improve programs
Training, Development & Health & Safety
- Coordinate training sessions, registrations, materials, and compliance records
- Support health & safety training initiatives and related record-keeping
- Occasionally deliver presentations (orientation, HRIS training, etc.)
Policy & Process Improvement
- Assist with drafting and updating HR Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Support P&C projects that enhance organizational culture and the volunteer experience
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in HR coordination or administration
- Diploma or degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (PayWorks, Volgistics, etc.) preferred
- CHRP designation (or working toward it) is an asset
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of HR functions (recruitment, onboarding, training)
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent time-management skills
- Tech-comfortable and curious — eager to learn and leverage new systems
- Strong communicator with a collaborative approach and people-first mindset
- Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Customer-service oriented with a solutions-driven approach to HR activities.
Additional Requirements: Completion of satisfactory reference check and a satisfactory criminal record check.
