Position Overview
The Infrastructure Delivery Department finds engineering solutions to help solve complex problems and is responsible for ensuring infrastructure is built in a safe, sustainable and responsible manner. This is done through working collaboratively and in partnership with Vaughan residents, consultants and contractors providing cost effective, timely, reliable and efficient services to help grow our City. The Infrastructure Delivery department is made up of three divisions: Design &Construction (State of Good Repair), Design & Construction (Growth) and Minor Capital.
Responsibilities
-
Assists the Project Team as a community construction liaison, being the first point of contact for the project by acknowledging and helping to resolve issues or referring to appropriate contacts.

Assists in carrying out inspector support requirements of the City in accordance with the City’s Field Services Handbook specifications and procedure.
-
Assists the Project Team with delivery of construction projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and engineering standards and specifications.
-
Attends and documents meetings with internal and external agencies to discuss and resolve project related issues.

Documents, collects field data, downloads, reviews and creates spreadsheets where required.
-
Responds to engineering inquiries from external agencies, consultants, and coordinates and compiles responses from all applicable stakeholders.

Assists with the maintenance of accurate and up to date records, both electronic and hard copy of all activities related to design and construction programming and construction activities.

Assists Inspector in collecting and tracking material tickets for concrete cubic meters and/or asphalt tonnages and verifying field measurements of various activity construction bid items (i.e. sidewalk, concrete curb, pavement line markings).
Other Duties

Performs other related tasks and projects, as assigned, which are in accordance with job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives

Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the corporate Occupational Health and Safety Policy and related procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education institution at a recognized community college or university in a Civil Engineering program and are returning to school at the next available term.

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada as a student.

Relevant education and previous experience in a similar field(s) are considered assets.
-
Demonstrated ability in organizing meetings, including preparation of agendas, taking minutes, documentation and circulation of documents with attention to detail and accuracy.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, etc.), coupled with proficient and accurate keyboarding skills.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written including drafting correspondence, presentations, media items and reports. Demonstrated ability to research and gather information.

Effective time management, organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to set priorities and meet required deadlines with conflicting demands and changing priorities coupled with problem solving and analytical skills.

Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and reliable vehicle to utilize on corporate business.
Working Conditions:
- Working on site in a Construction environment. Travel to sites will be required.
