Responsibilities

The Transportation Analytics Intern supports the Research and Analytics team under the guidance of designated R&A managers by conducting analytics, research, and forecasting support in various projects. Provides technical input to the transportation planning division. Duties include gathering data, applying advanced analytics, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data engineering, and utilizing visualization tools for risk identification and trends analysis to address real-life transportation challenges using large datasets.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

An advanced certificate or degree (i.e. Master’s) degree is required in a related field with a strong emphasis on applied mathematics, statistics, data science, advanced computing, transportation analytics, or economics. Proficiency in the use of various applications/programs such as (MS Office, Python, SQL, R, PowerBI, Tableau is required).

EXPERIENCE :

Up to six (6) months experience in a planning environment or related field. A period of up to one (1) year is required in the position to become acquainted with TransLink's TPP structure, policies, procedures and standards.

Other Information

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Modeling & Forecasting, this position will require strong skills in econometric modeling, machine learning, and data science. The applicant should have experience with python, R, sql, and other typical data science tools.

Research & Analytics is a multi-disciplinary department with backgrounds in forecasting, economics, computer science, data science, market research, and transportation engineering. Our team members are curious and creative, tackling challenging analytical questions on the fly to support decision making for leaders in our organization and those we support.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This is a full-time temporary position with an estimated end date of March 31, 2027 (18-month position).

Hybrid

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay

Salary $5,818.86 - $6,979.82 per month (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).

The Total Compensation Package includes Extended Health, Transit Pass and enrollment in the Public Service Pension Plan upon eligibility.
