About the role

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Manager, National Material Quality, the Sorter, Material Quality - ON is responsible to participate in the field level execution of the auditing and monitoring activities that Circular Materials (CM) will be carrying out at various points in the process of collecting and processing recyclable materials. In this role, the Sorter will ensure adherence to sampling, audit, and health and safety protocols, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

This is a full-time position, salaried paid and requires residency in Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops a thorough understanding of CM’s sampling, auditing, and monitoring protocols and procedures.

  • Ensures the work is completed safely, and in accordance with CM and facility Health & Safety protocols.

  • Ensures that audit protocols and procedures are always followed correctly, consistently, and efficiently.

  • Ensures the field audit deliverables are provided in a timely fashion.

  • Ensures the audit facilities are maintained in a clean and safe state.

  • Ensures the audit data collection, recording, and reporting are accurate.

  • Participates in the execution of sampling, and auditing which may include:

    • Supporting audit leads in collection of samples of inbound and outbound materials at pre-conditioning facilities,
    • Auditing (i.e. sorting for composition analysis) of pre- and post-processed Blue Box materials and residual materials at post-collection partner facilities and/or dedicated audit facilities,
    • Observation of audits undertaken by stakeholders, and,
    • Testing and refinement of auditing protocols and plans.
  • Represents CM in a professional manner inside and outside of CM audit facilities.

  • Identifies continuous improvement opportunities within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in environmental field or relevant experience.
  • Direct experience or knowledge of Blue Box recycling programs, stewardship programs, or related field is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education, and experiences may be considered.

Experience

  • 1+ years waste and recycling auditing experience.
  • Experience in waste, recycling, field operations, auditing, or a related hands-on environment is considered an asset.

Knowledge**/Competencies/Skills**

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and the ability to communicate and apply AI technologies effectively within a business context.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong focus on information accuracy.

  • Ability to motivate others in a team-oriented, and collaborative environment.

  • Competent working with numbers.

  • This role involves physical work (e.g. standing for long periods of time and lifting up to 50lbs).

  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.

  • Comfortable with written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Able to relay analytical observations.

  • Excellent organizational skills and time management.

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

  • Detail-oriented with strong communication skills.

WORKING****CONDITIONS

  • All CM employees work 40 hours per week, remotely from a Canadian home office environment.

  • This role requires field work in Ontario. As a result, there will be variability in scheduling to accommodate operational needs.

  • Extra or flexible hours may be required on occasion. The job demands that the incumbent have a flexible work schedule with periods of uneven workload.

  • The role requires frequent travel across Ontario, including regular overnight stays (as needed based on audit schedules). Common locations include: Cambridge, Napanee, the GTA, London and Ottawa.

  • This role involves working in facilities that are subject to hot and cold weather conditions, loud machinery and dusty and dirty environments.

  • A valid Driver’s license is required, and comprehensive vehicle insurance is required.

  • Based in Ontario with the ability to travel within the province.

PAY TRANSPARENCY

Expected****Compensation:

  • An annual base salary in the range of $40,000 to $50,000.

The salary range listed complies with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and reflects a potential base salary range for this role. The actual salary offered will be determined within the range, and will depend on factors, such as the candidate’s unique qualifications, relevant experience, work location and expected contributions.
