Description Scope of Position

Working at WinSport allows you to be an integral part of creating one of the most unique winter sport institutes in the world. You will be providing first-aid and medical assistance to athletes of all levels and disciplines. You will be working in an elite team, in a facility that showcases world-class services, supporting our customers in their training and maintaining an active lifestyle. The successful applicant will have a strong ability to prioritize multiple high acuity tasks in a fast pace environment. They will be able to confidently work through multi-faceted challenges as they arise with a friendly and mature demeanor.

As a Patroller, you will be reporting to the Patrol Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for hazard prevention, guest safety interactions, the delivery of first aid and medical assessments and treatment to guests, staff, and volunteers.

We are looking for candidates with Full Time availability, who can commit to the position for the whole Winter season (November-March).

Responsibilities

  • Following the Medical Protocols, provide prompt and efficient delivery of first aid and medical assessment and treatment to guests, staff, and volunteers in all areas of the facility
  • Initiate and maintain Patient Care Reports, and other documentation as required
  • Performing incident investigation
  • Monitor hazards in the mountain bike / ski areas, and across campus
  • Inspect skiing, snowboarding, mountain bike trails, jumps, and features
  • Open and close ski, snowboarding, and mountain bike trails as required
  • Operate radio, and telecommunication equipment following Winsport protocols
  • Monitor, record, and report on all emergency equipment including AED’s, medical supplies, first aid kits, and emergency call box systems
  • Assist in all parks wide emergency evacuations (Fire/Ammonia/Weather)
  • Embody the foundational values of a safety-based culture by adhering to Winsport safety policy and procedures
  • Integrate safety protocols to ensure maximized safety of self, co-workers, supervisors, and guests
  • Ensure compliance with posted OH+S advisories, and work closely with Risk Department managers to implement a safety-based culture
  • Respond professionally to guests and manage guest conduct as per expectations and process of WinSport
  • Other duties as delegated

Qualifications

  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Minimum of 80hr Advanced First Aid ticket is required (must be renewed every three years)
  • Strong ski / snowboard ability
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Previous patrol experiences an asset
  • Ability to perform all responsibilities with a high level of professionalism
  • Previous snowmobile operating experience as an asset
  • Knowledge of the ski / snowboard, area at WinSport an asset

Physical Demands

  • This is a physically demanding position due to the nature of skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and the practice of remote extrication
  • May be required to be outside for up to 100% of time on shift
  • Environmental exposures may involve: Extreme cold, hot, wet and/or humid weather, sunlight, wind, hail, among others
  • Other exposures may include Infectious diseases, needle-stick injuries and inherent risks of skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, among others
  • Lifting no more than 125lbs with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • May be required to stand for periods up to 4 hours
  • Constant kneeling, bending and twisting

Training Requirements

Winsport will provide the successful applicant with the following training:

  • Medical Control Protocol training, and continuing education
  • Mandatory medical training October 17-22, 2025 based in Calgary
  • Rescue Toboggan and Snowmobile Training
  • Ammonia awareness
  • Ground level lift evacuation training

About WinSport

The Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) opened in January 1994. The facility provides fitness training and support services to Nordic athletes and the public. The BWTC is located at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It was the host site of the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
