About the role
Position Title: Systems Administrator
Reports To: Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure
I. Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the oversight, management, and optimal performance of the organization’s network infrastructure. This includes ensuring the security, stability, and efficiency of the network, as well as supporting end-users and troubleshooting network-related issues.
II. Essential Functions
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining network hardware and software.
- Monitoring network performance to ensure system availability and reliability.
- Managing network security, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Performing regular data backups and ensuring disaster recovery plans are in place.
- Providing technical support and training to end-users as required.
- Collaborating with IT staff to design and implement network improvements.
- Documenting network configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Working with partners to manage and troubleshoot the VoIP infrastructure including the Call Center system.
- Providing after hour and weekends support as required to address critical systems issues or perform systems maintenance/upgrades.
III. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Windows Domain, VMWare ESXi, Windows Server OS, Office 365 Suite, Azure AD and IaaS, Exchange Server, Cisco iOS and FortiOS, Microsoft Intune and or other MDM solutions, and PowerShell scripting.
- Experience working with a broad range of infrastructure including servers, SANs, firewalls, routers, switches, and remote access technologies.
- Experience with unified communications and cloud telephony in a geographically distributed environment would be an asset.
- Administration of backup technologies for files, operating systems, virtual environments, and infrastructure devices.
- Understanding of modern security best practices in the context of infrastructure or cloud services.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to understand complex technical, business and organizational concepts.
- Demonstrated decision making skills; self-directed.
- Good relationship/team builder and networking skills with a variety of stakeholders.
Experience and Education
- Post secondary education in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, or related field
- Minimum three years of experience in a network administration role.
- Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are an asset.
Work Environment
- Work in an office environment with occasions to work remotely.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, evenings, or weekends for off hours administration or emergencies.
