Job Description
We seek to hire a motivated individual to join our team as an intermediate aquatic biologist. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of aquatic monitoring and assessment programs involving the collection of water, sediment, benthic macroinvertebrates, plankton and fish. In addition, the successful candidate will support and be involved in data summary, data analysis and report preparation. The position will require travel to locations throughout Canada for periods as long as two to three weeks with expenses paid. The successful candidate will be required to conduct fieldwork in inclement weather, at remote field locations, on large and small boats, and in freshwater and marine environments. In addition, some field programs require night work - when active sampling of nocturnal organisms is required.
Responsibilities

Lead aquatic field studies;

Plan field work logistics;

Assist in Project Management and budget tracking;
-
Maintenance of field equipment/vessels in safe working condition;
-
Data entry, tabulation and quality assurance and quality control;
-
Conduct laboratory based investigations; and
-
Participate in report preparation.
Qualifications
Applicants for this role MUST meet the following requirements:
- Graduated with an environmental based diploma or degree;
- Minimum of 5 years post diploma or degree experience, this can include a M.Sc. with 2 to 3 years of work experience;
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written);
- Valid Class G Driver’s Licence;
- Experience trailering and operation of boats on large lakes;
- Familiarity with a variety of benthic, fish, water and sediment sampling techniques and equipment;
- Meet requirements of federal security clearances;
- Ability to perform physically demanding work (able to life 50 lbs); and,
- Willingness to travel and/or work shifts (twelve hour day and night shifts).

Past experience with larval fish or eggs an asset

Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification

Experience aging fish using a variety of structures;

Experience with microscopy;

Experience with Microsoft Excel and other methods of data storage and presentation; and;

Experience writing reports and applications to fulfill government requirements (i.e., annual permit reports, EEM reports, Ontario ECA and PTTW applications
