Position Summary
The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a confident, detail orientated and organized professional to join our Engineering Team. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, the Engineering Technologist will ensure the integrity of the infrastructure data and associated systems of infrastructure management for the City’s asset management program. Assisting in the enforcement of Development Agreements and the City’s engineering standards. The scope of work will uphold the engineering reliability for all engineering drawings, records, and data associated with City infrastructure. The Engineering Technologist will work in cooperation with Engineering Coordinators and other City departments to assist with all engineering related projects.
Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain digital water, sewer, storm, and roadways base maps and databases utilizing software such as AutoCAD and GIS.
- Provide project and technical support, including but not limited to custom mapping, GIS user support, limited site surveys, condition rating, and data interpretation.
- Review engineering design drawings related to municipal infrastructure and site servicing to ensure the City’s engineering standards are met.
- Act as a liaison between the City and Developers/Consultants to oversee the progress of developments and ensure that the City’s interests are looked after.
- Assist in the enforcement of Development Agreements.
- Respond to external inquiries from residents, utility companies, engineers, developers, etc., related to City infrastructure, services, standards, and development Procedures.
- Review plot plans and survey certificates to ensure lot grading complies with the approved drainage plans.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental, Water Resources or another Municipal Services related field. The incumbent will be a member (or be eligible for membership) in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET). A Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License is required for this position. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the design, construction, or operation of municipal infrastructure including extensive use of digital design, mapping, and/or asset management tools and experience in reading, interpreting, or drafting of engineering drawings is required. Alternatively, two (2) years of experience in planning/development including involvement in engineering design and development administration is required. A good technical understanding of how municipal infrastructure systems are designed, constructed and operated is necessary. The Technologist must have an ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and legal documents. Good technical skills with AutoCAD, GIS and other computer software are needed, as well as an aptitude for logical problem solving. A current five (5) year Driver’s Abstract will be required at the time of interview.
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
Duration: Immediately – January 3, 2028 (with the possibility of extension)
