Position Overview:
The Estimator – Environmental Group will play a critical role in supporting YORK1’s growth by providing accurate cost estimates for projects and tenders while also supporting sales efforts. This role combines technical estimating expertise with strong client-facing and inside sales skills. You will assess project specifications, develop detailed estimates, engage with clients, and assist the sales team in preparing proposals. Strong collaboration with internal teams and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential.
Key Functions & Duties:
- Review project specifications, drawings, soil reports, and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to fully understand project scope and client requirements.
- Utilize estimating software and maintain detailed records to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and internal teams to understand project goals, constraints, and risks.
- Support the sales team by coordinating client communications, responding to inquiries, and assisting with proposal and quotation preparation.
- Maintain and update CRM records, track client interactions, and manage sales pipeline information.
- Conduct market research and monitor industry trends to identify opportunities and maintain competitive pricing.
- Prepare and submit bid proposals, including detailed cost breakdowns and supporting documentation.
- Track and analyze completed projects to improve future estimating accuracy.
- Assist with contract negotiations and provide ongoing support to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Help organize virtual and in-person client meetings, presentations, and occasional trade show support.
- Ensure timely follow-ups and excellent client service, combining technical accuracy with strong customer relationships.
Required Education, Experience & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma with relevant environmental or construction industry experience.

Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience within the environmental or related construction industry.

Experience in inside sales, client service, or sales support roles is an asset.

Strong knowledge of environmental services, including hydrovac techniques, utilities, and waste management.

Proficiency in reading municipal tenders, construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Experience with estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and CRM systems.

Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with high attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with clients and internal teams.

Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to sites as needed.
