Summary: Regional Head of Project Logistics – AMERICAS

The Regional Head of Project Logistics – AMERICAS is responsible for overseeing the Project Logistics product within the AMERICAS region. This role manages the Project Logistics Support Team personnel and is accountable for the overall profitability of the product in the region.

The Regional Head works closely with local Operations, Sales, and other Product Owners to develop solutions and drive the continued growth of our Project Logistics capabilities across the region.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage the regional Project Logistics Support team

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Increase GP line contribution from Project Logistics Product through:

    • Heavy Haulage
    • River Barging
    • Ocean Breakbulk
    • Specialized Containers
    • Air & Ocean Charters
  • Increase Global GP achieved from Project Logistics Support team

  • Be a subject-matter expert in Project Logistics and Support Sales Team on project logistics solution design for customers.

  • Coach Project Logistics Support team in the Americas region to improve individual technical capability.

  • Manage performance of Project Logistics Team in the AMERICAS Region consisting of staff in various countries throughout the region.

  • Develop a growth strategy and business plan for our Project Logistics Producin the AMERICAS Region based on targeted markets and clientele, strengthening countries with low expertise level and enhancing capability in countries with existing expertise.

  • Develop new relationships with prospective customers as well as maintain relationships with existing customers with requirements involving project logistics.

  • Cultivate a culture of safety at work through compliance and process ownership when handling project cargo.

  • Support budget preparations for Project Logistics Support Team once a year during budgeting season.

  • Work with Branch Managers, Business Development and Key Account Managers to grow our Project Logistics Product in the AMERICAS Region.

  • Work with Regional Heads of Project Logistics in APAC and EMEA regions to ensure alignment on approach for success with a focus on existing strengths and how to strengthen weaknesses.

  • Work with Product Heads for Ocean, Air and Road in AMERICAS and overseas to develop solutions to differentiate OIA Project Logistics offering from the competition.

  • Work with our Network Development Team to select and continuously review Project Logistics Agents throughout the AMERICAS region that can support OIA’s success. Recruit new Project Logistics personnel as and when needed.

  • Seek, Bid and Win new opportunities in project logistics throughout the AMERICAS Region consisting of over-sized and heavy lift shipments both to project sites and manufacturing sites.

  • Support sourcing logistics solutions for project logistics RFQ’s received from OIA existing and targeted customers.

  • Own the response personally or via team of project logistics request for quotations from current and prospective customers.

  • Oversee and supervise operations from start to finish of appointed scope of work to ensure smooth running of operations and in compliance with company’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Ensure that Projects secured by the AMERICAS Project Logistics Support Team and executed by the Support Team are done in compliance with company’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Ensure hand-over of projects secured by the Support Team and executed by Branch Operations is done to achieve smooth operations at time of shipments.

  • Ensure quotes made by Project Logistics Support Team are recorded in Cargowise One.

  • Ensure shipments are correctly recorded in Cargowise One and billed on time.

  • Develop and sustain relationships with new & existing vendors by sourcing, initiating, and attending regular meetings with trucking companies, port agents, shipping lines, carriers, marine surveyors at their offices or trade fairs.

  • Attend customer visits as required to maintain and develop relationship with designated accounts.

  • Perform negotiation on BIDs & Project inquiries with vendors, customers, and agents for our Project Logistics business.

  • Support local requests in a timely manner. Develop the skillset of local teams through offering advice, guidance, and training in relation to matters pertaining to project cargo and related activities.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Significant technical expertise / experience on project cargo (quoting, planning and execution) including specialized containers, river barging, ocean breakbulk, air & charters and OOG haulage.

  • Possession of an extensive network of supplier contacts throughout AMERICAS in the services above as well as project logistics forwarding agents.

  • Possession of a good network of customer contacts throughout the region that can support the growth of this project within the region.

  • Experience working for a top 10 project logistics forwarder globally.

  • Excellent negotiation skills & and proactive communication with management of diverse work groups.

  • Innovative and constantly seeking improvement on current processes

  • Able to work to deadlines and with high attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving, financial acumen and analytical skillset

  • Take ownership and initiatives at work, ambitious, self-motivated, and result-oriented

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with customers and build rapport.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Management or related field required

  • At least 10 years’ experience in a Project Logistics environment

  • At least 10 years' experience in pricing in an operations setting

  • Familiarity with CargoWise’s Enterprise system a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Travel domestically and internationally based on business needs.
