Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Services, the PACS Administrator is responsible for supporting all aspects of the hospital’s Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). This includes preparing medical images for digital archiving and ensuring the quality control of diagnostic images and associated files.

The PACS Administrator coordinates a wide range of technical and operational functions essential to successful imaging informatics. This includes implementing, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting PACS and related systems, overseeing backup procedures, and training physicians and staff on Diagnostic Imaging applications.

What We Are Looking For

  • Manage the distribution and storage of digital images from various sources, including CT, X-Ray, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound.
  • Provide PACS support at the application level, including managing image workflows, auto-routing, and other related tasks.
  • Integrate diagnostic images with the Meditech Hospital Information System (HIS) to ensure seamless data management.
  • Ensure that digital image data transfers are correctly entered into the PACS system, with proper RIS validation and handling of any exceptions.
  • Work with radiologists to create hanging protocols that streamline the reporting process.
  • Engage with end users to understand PACS needs, gather business requirements, and define functional specifications.
  • Assist in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures to optimize PACS performance.
  • Provide user training on PACS equipment and software, ensuring proper usage and effective operation.
  • Monitor PACS performance in relation to overall network performance, minimizing downtime and slowdowns.
  • Prepare regular performance reports on PACS and make recommendations based on data findings.
  • Define and manage service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure high-quality performance standards.
  • Maintain an inventory of PACS equipment, including contracts, service histories, and capacity planning.
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, and troubleshoot PACS hardware and software, ensuring reliability and smooth operation.
  • Ensure PACS compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Participate in customer satisfaction programs and support quality improvement initiatives by identifying areas for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned to support PACS administration.

Key PACS Administration Responsibilities

  • Lead daily PACS administration tasks, including exam merging, patient merging, and exam relocation, while providing support to clinical coordinators and radiologists.
  • Oversee back-office PACS administration, generating regular reports and managing data to maintain database integrity, while leading efforts to resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify and document user concerns and feature requests, contributing to system enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot imaging informatics applications and hardware, collaborating with service providers for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Provide system administration support and resolve issues for PACS users as needed.
  • Work closely with radiology quality management to define future system needs and design efficient workflows in the digital imaging environment.
  • Support IT staff and liaise with vendors to maintain and troubleshoot back-office PACS systems, including managing archival and retrieval from regional repositories (HDIRS).
  • Collaborate with the DI Manager and DI team to develop strategic plans for diagnostic imaging systems and initiatives.
  • Manage projects related to PACS, providing regular progress updates to the DI Manager.
  • Ensure system compatibility by collaborating with users and IT to align departmental systems with PACS requirements.
  • Share on-call responsibilities for PACS, Powerscribe, and other imaging informatics systems to ensure round-the-clock support.

What You Bring To The Role

  • PACS Administrator Course or Imaging Informatics Graduate Certificate or Professional Health Care-related Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma required
  • CMRTO certification is an asset.
  • Two to three years of relevant experience working with PACS.
  • Experience with Change/OCINET PACS, PowerScribe, and WTIS is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in Diagnostic Imaging (DI) is required.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of DI processes and their modalities, including how they function and interface with one another, is necessary
  • Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (HIS), particularly Meditech, is preferred.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Improvement principles.
  • Experience with IQMH is preferred.
  • Commitment to professional growth, demonstrated through Continuing Education and Self-Directed Learning.
  • Knowledge of Radiology Department workflows
  • Understanding of network infrastructure, including components, capabilities, limitations, and functions.
  • Proficient in computer systems, networks, operating systems, and database technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while maintaining a strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience in maintaining applications will be a significant asset.

Work Schedule The successful candidate will be required to work Monday-Friday day shift, with occassional additional on-call.

Compensation BAND G

Range $49.30 - $60.53
