The location in Nekoosa, (Wisconsin, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Electrical and Instrumentation Apprentice. This job is full-time permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apprentices will assist journeymen with repairs, maintenance, and installation of mill machinery and related equipment, as well as provide help with locating, determining, and repairing electrical/instrumentation malfunctions.
  • Apprentices will maintain environmental systems and power generating equipment as required and assist other crafts when working together on a job.
  • Other duties of the apprentice include: assisting journeymen when working on medium and high voltage equipment, inspecting and testing electrical/instrumentation equipment as required, installing pneumatic, electronic, and other instrumentation equipment, disassembling malfunctioning equipment, examining and testing mechanisms and circuitry for defects, operate distributive controls and configure controllers for required troubleshooting, assist with planning layouts, running conduit, wiring and tubing for both new and existing installations.
  • Apprentice must conform to all NFPA70 rules and regulations, perform general housekeeping duties, and perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • Apprentices must be able to physically perform job duties.
  • Score no more than 35 for on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue test in distinguishing colors.
  • Apprentices will need to pass a respirator fit test and be clean shaven where the sealing surface of the respirator contacts the face and have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
  • Apprentices must meet established test standards (Nowlin test standards for mechanical aptitude) and have a good work record, strong work ethic, and have good safety and attendance records.
  • Apprentices must successfully complete the State Indentured Electrical/Instrumentation Apprenticeship Program with classroom and on-the-job related instruction.
  • Apprentices must be able to lift 50-100 pounds regularly. Examples include drives, motors, valves, piping, power bar, etc. Apprentices must do a considerable amount of bending, stooping, reaching, turning, and twisting and must be able to climb and work in high places. Examples include: 8 foot to 60 foot elevated lifts, ladders, cherry pickers, and manlifts.
  • Apprentices must work safely around moving machinery and work in confined places, and they must also work safely with hazardous materials such as: corrosive acids, chlorates, polymers, gases, etc. Apprentices will work in extremely hot areas and must wear protective equipment and clothing when required.
  • Apprentices must also learn to operate and use power equipment such as: saws, drills, planers, threaders, etc., and must have the ability to read blueprints, schematics and PID diagrams.
  • All maintenance employees are expected to respond to call-ins, work shift work, overtime, Sunday’s and holidays as required.
  • Ability to pass computer-based aptitude testing, panel interview, pre-employment physical capabilities test, pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, and a background check.

Recommended Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree in Electrical Power, Electronics, Computer Engineering or Instrumentation areas OR equivalent core education of post high school Intermediate Algebra or Trigonometry, post high school Physics, post high school Mechanical Drafting/Blueprint reading, post high school training in hydraulics, OR equivalent work experience in field.
