Working with Richardson opens the door to a world of possibility. We currently have an opportunity for a Summer Student - Richardson Farms at our Richardson Kelburn Farm. Our Richardson Farm is a 700-acre Crop Development Center and demonstration farm that is dedicated to practical research and demonstration projects related to emerging agricultural technology with the areas of focus being agronomy, disease management, fertility, soil & water management, crop protection and seed varieties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with seeding, in-season applications, and harvest operations utilizing both established and emerging technologies, as well as various crop input products.
  • Safely and efficiently operate large-scale agricultural equipment, including tractors, high-clearance sprayers, mowers, grain carts, and combines.
  • Utilize digital platforms for accurate data entry, monitoring, and analysis to support agronomic decision-making.
  • Conduct crop scouting to identify and report on weed infestations, disease presence, and insect activity.
  • Lead field assessments and contribute to data collection efforts including tissue testing and treatment evaluations.
  • Participate in agronomy-focused training sessions and farm tours to enhance technical knowledge and field experience.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in agriculture, supported by foundational knowledge of agronomic principles.
  • Self-directed, organized, and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to safety and productivity.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Enrollment in or recent completion of a post-secondary program in Agriculture, with a focus on Agronomy, Plant Science, or Soil Science.
  • Prior agricultural experience is considered an asset but is not a requirement.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
